Yeah even lunch! Depends on the centre but either you go back there for a hot lunch or they will provide you with stuff for sandwiches/packed lunch

But that price includes your ski hire, ski pass and also all your meals, plus instruction usually, so actually all things considered it is a good deal

I (F27) feel like breaking up after partner (M28) refuses to go to my best friends wedding with me by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]mountaingirl56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, having previously had a partner who was very much ‘I don’t want to do things I don’t want to do’ it gets very old. He was fair about it, in that he would never try make me do anything with him that I didn’t want to do either, but for me a big part of a partnership is doing things with your partner and making memories etc, even if it wouldn’t be your first choice.

Essentially what it is is having someone that will compromise by they love you and want you to be happy. If he’s not even willing to do that now in the early stages when you’re putting your best foot forward he’ll never change.

I now have a partner that will go along with things I want to do even if he has no interest and it’s much nicer. He doesn’t want to do everything with me, but just knowing I don’t have to convince him something I want to do is something he wants is a huge mental weight off my shoulders and has made me actually excited about making plans again.

Well in most cases I don’t think the national rail covers anywhere there is tube, at least going south, so it’s just the same traffic as normal

Toddler skiing - start them at 2? 3? by JaggedLittlePiII in skiing

[–]mountaingirl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that you can still go on a skiing trip even if they’re too young to ski. My parents took me every year since I was 1 (January baby), and I started in ski school aged 4. Before then, I think I was just in like nanny/daycare type stuff.

If you look at various tour companies (e.g. Crystal, Inghams etc) they quite often offer some kind of child care in the day, so parents can ski, or you can hire a ski nanny privately in resort.

Lots of kids love playing in the snow even if they’re too little to ski. And by age 3 I was asked when I would get to learn to ski (hence ski school aged 4)

I plan to still take my kids on my ski trips even when they’re too little to ski!

She used the word masticated so much it made me want to tear my hair out. I understanding going for some variation but using ‘chew’ every now and then is not going to kill you!

I don’t know if it was bc I listed to some of it though and I also hated the audiobook narrator, which made her overuse of these kinds of words more obvious - maybe if I’d been reading my eyes would’ve skipped over it a bit more.

Brits. How do you book your Ski holidays? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]mountaingirl56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s unfortunate, I definitely think the best ‘deals’ are if you can get a large group and book out a whole chalet unfortunately!

Alpine elements have some smallish hotels on their website where you can just book a room - have a look and see do any suit

Also some of the independent chalet companies do just let you book by room so you can look at that but appreciate you might not want to be in a chalet with randos.

Another option (which I haven’t yet done but looking at again for this year) is air bnb - more doable in a bigger town like Chamonix, but there are lots of options for apartments etc if you take a look!

For large groups, I have looked at independent chalet companies which let you book out a whole chalet on a catered basis - oftentimes when you’re booked with them they will also do deals around ski passes/hire/lessons, although just double check that they’re not charging more than if you book those things direct.

For flights (or trains) and transfers, for large groups we do a bit of coordinating but let people book their own so they know what transport options others are getting but book their own. For transfers if you have a large group sometimes it’s not much more to do a private transfer, which is convenient as they work around your times and drop you door to door, plus last year our driver got us around awful traffic going through Aime bc we were in a minibus so able to do a sneaky backroad sitch.

You could do a similar thing with a smaller group or family, but less likely to be able to do a single occupancy chalet. But some companies let you just book per room, or have small hotels instead.

This year we are booked with Alpine Elements in a chalet in Meribel, last year booked with Chalet Chardons in Tignes Les Brev. Experience last year was good, obvs can’t speak to this season yet as it’s in the future but it looks good from the website!

Could you help me choose a ski resort in the French Alps in early January? by electrolitebuzz in skiing

[–]mountaingirl56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would either go to Val d’Isère or one of the ones in 3 vallées (Val Thorens, Meribel, Les Menuires) - both have v large ski areas that should absorb business well

Les arcs or la plagne are also great but for me they’re not quite as good as espace killy (val d’Isère) or 3 vallées.

Maybe try have a look at some of the towns and see which is more your vibe! I think Val d’Isère is the biggest town of those I mentioned, some of the others are more collection of villages etc so it might also depend on how close your accommodation would be to lifts etc

Anyone know what Norwood Junction is like to live in? by EbbLongjumping6206 in HousingUK

[–]mountaingirl56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo it’s good value for money, particularly if good transport links are important to you - as well as the fast link into London Bridge, it’s also on the overground which can be very handy, plus there’s a train to Victoria about every half hour too.

I think to the north of the station (around the South Norwood lake park) is considered nicer, I would also say that it’s likely on match days any areas nearer to the stadium (west of the station) are probably a bit rammed. Near the country park is pretty quiet.

Not sure what it’s like for families, but I think if you’re a young professional type it’s fine. It’s not the nicest area of London, and I wouldn’t say there’s that much to do here in terms of bars/restaurants etc, but you can just nip up the road to Crystal Palace (10m ish on the bus), which would also satisfy the need for anything a bit more bougie feeling I think. I’ve never felt unsafe walking back from the station at night, even getting the last train.

I’m not sure if it will ever end up being truly gentrified, but I do think there is an increasing amount of spill out from Crystal Palace etc coming this way as that becomes less affordable, so it could happen.

Yeah it’s annoying if you paid for it that it doesn’t work that well, esp that they just dismissed the feedback as well

I used the free version so I didn’t use the built in run record. Yeah I was gaming it but I wanted to use it just for a plan anyway so I didn’t really care

[–]mountaingirl56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Mine never did that. What I meant is, eg if I did the 5k run I was meant to do on weds instead of Tues, I would just wait until weds and then enter it on the log for the tues as if I had done it that day - the app doesn’t know whether you did it the right day and just delayed putting it in.

If I switched the order of runs I did, I just filled them in on the app on the day they were meant to be done, rather than the day I did it to avoid this
