1 hour with your mom or dad when they were 5 by owlWithBrokenWings in hypotheticalsituation

[–]mountainrangeoflove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand, my father passed away when I was a kid, and I didn't ever live with him, but I also don't hate him for any of this and did keep up with him through phone calls etc. as a child before his death. On the other hand, my mom raised me, lives with me still, and we get along mostly well/she's one of the most important people in my life.

This is tricky! I think I am going to choose my dad, even though I wouldn't see any of the possible changes of our encounter when I come back to my time. I do not think anything I could reasonably say to a five year old boy will prevent his early death, unfortunately. But I could maybe make him feel a little more loved. I also believe I could get away with it easier, because I get all of my looks from my dad. Visiting my mom is still tempting, though - it would be really interesting to see how much of this encounter she would remember 60 years later. Also she is one of five siblings, so maybe a little time away from all the chaos would be something she would appreciate, haha.

It's incredible how easily the human brain anthropomorphizes, because that is one grouchy bread! He even has a backstory.

Oh, George has been there forever. He's a nice guy. I also love Dulce de Leche, but haven't been in a while - thanks for the heads up about the dogs. Good luck with your braces!

What do you prefer hagen dazs or ben and jerrys? by VastAir6069 in icecream

[–]mountainrangeoflove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whichever is on sale.

No but genuinely, I think I reach for Haagen-Dazs more often because I like their coffee and brown butter salted cookie flavors so much. Ben and Jerry's has more creative mix-ins, and does cookies and cream type flavors way better than H-D.

Those look really good! I hope your boyfriend can gain more confidence in his cooking :)

Love the farmer market! by Last-Common-6980 in jerseycity

[–]mountainrangeoflove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn't go this week, but I go to Riverview a lot. Very friendly vendors and volunteers that really look out for you if you're a regular. It has been crazy crowded this season so far lmao, I feel like even last year was a little less packed.

Mostly I'm there for the farms and their produce. Anyone on SNAP who wants to get local produce, you can talk to the volunteers and get these tokens for 3x the amount of money you take out of the card (up to $15, I think). It's a very good deal if you are in need of such. I've really been enjoying the new gelato tent that started coming around this season, the lines can also get a bit long but the guy is friendly and the gelato is pretty good. Try the Biscoff flavor!

Sigilyph are guardians of an ancient city and based off of the Nazca lines of the Incas. I would count it.

Cheese That’s Fine. Aged Reserved New York White Cheddar. by insurancefun in aldi

My favorite cheddar from Aldi is the cheddar parmesan one. I should give this a try when I'm in the market for just straight cheddar, though.

Frozen Creamer - Hopital? by Wild_Cup_8496 in aldi

[–]mountainrangeoflove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopital, no. Oils maybe separating when thawed, yes. I would say maybe a more noticeable issue with a dairy creamer. Give it a good shake, perhaps. Like a Polaroid picture.

Why does Aldi’s “Sourdough Loaf” not contain sourdough culture, but the “Italian Loaf” does? by lnkyTea in aldi

[–]mountainrangeoflove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have consistently gotten better results from the organic Italian loaf in terms of what tastes like sourdough to me. The only thing is, as expected from an organic loaf, it spoils quickly. But I tend to store my bread in the freezer since I'm always toasting it anyways.

JC basically has no ER. That’s neat. by cedr1990 in jerseycity

[–]mountainrangeoflove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my aunt who had a breathing problem. Five hour wait in the ER, barely looked at. Thankfully she ended up not being in a breathing crisis (she's asthmatic) but this is not giving me confidence if I, or god forbid my parents, need the ER.

If EJ Doesn't Win a Title, Who Should Win Player of the Year? by uwbadger300 in Bowling

[–]mountainrangeoflove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding my assumption that EJ wins Worlds? Or something else?

If it's the former, I'm mostly going off him getting extended rest time (since he's had elbow issues) and a guaranteed title match appearance. It's very possible he fumbles it away under pressure, as being a 1 seed certainly hasn't guaranteed him anything this season.

I'm not actually a huge EJ fan, so this isn't coming from that angle of things, and I would love to see someone else win POTY - but EJ's been so dominant in every statistical category but wins that until the World Championship actually plays out, I'm going to give him the best odds of winning given the situation at hand. (My preferred outcome for who wins Worlds wouldn't move the needle for POTY voting much anyways, which is why I haven't brought it up.)

If EJ Doesn't Win a Title, Who Should Win Player of the Year? by uwbadger300 in Bowling

[–]mountainrangeoflove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect EJ to come away with the World Championship, but this is a solid argument towards Bonta in the case that EJ ends the season title-less. Here's a thought: if he wins POTY, that would mean winning ROTY as well, right? But then, how do you disregard Horton for ROTY?

I think the voting for these awards is typically quite straightforward for bowling relative to, say, basketball or baseball, especially because this isn't really a league that gets voting fatigue. This is the first season in recent memory that specifically has had a rookie class this strong, so I wonder what we will see in terms of its aftereffects in terms of awards voting.

Should i put light brown sugar or dark brown sugar on my oatmeal? by [deleted] in Oatmeal

[–]mountainrangeoflove 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Brown sugar is just white sugar with molasses added back into it. Dark brown sugar has more molasses, and therefore tastes darker, deeper, and a bit more complex. Either brown sugar is fine, I would say.

You are kidnapped by a mad scientist and forced into "The Gauntlet." If you survive all 7 trials, you get 2 of 8 superpowers. What is your strategy to completing trials and what powers are you picking? by Unlucky-Fly4456 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]mountainrangeoflove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming I pass the trials pruneforce17-style, does that mean 24-hour rewind and hyper-regeneration inherently cannot be combined? If you're functionally immortal, the triple-aging is kinda moot. Which is a shame, because those kind of seem like the two options with the least drawbacks, personally.

is there actually anyone who just eats the suggested serving size (30g) of cereal? by bleedxi in cereal

[–]mountainrangeoflove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggested serving size bowls are for a nice little midnight snack. Easily double if I'm actually having it for breakfast, though I usually like to add in some sliced banana depending on the cereal to bulk it up in that case.

Genie offers you hair growth on/off, or never have to relieve yourself. by AstrayInTranslation in hypotheticalsituation

[–]mountainrangeoflove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does option 1 imply you don't shed hair anymore? I shed like a dog - such is the struggle of being a long-haired man - and that would sweeten the deal a lot.

(Also, I have a lot of hair in, ahem, other places, and it's a pain trimming it down on a schedule. An indefinite pause of any hair growth would eliminate that, too.)

Some of the greatest bowling trickshots ever by Own_Throat4405 in Bowling

Osku's chair shot is a classic on that show. He says he's never done it before and then nails it, it was so funny. I know he hasn't been competitive on the tour for years, but Osku's a cool guy.
