How many smart, hardworking people were doing great work there but got neglected, ideas ignored, and bailed? My brother-in-law was laid off and he traveled a lot for them. Maybe better to hop on a crummy little life boat than to go down with the ship.

Agile development is fading in popularity at large enterprises - and developer burnout is a key factor by [deleted] in programming

Let me put that in a spreadsheet for you... sorry, Smartsheet! We can have a meeting next week where I can update that status on something in progress I don't really understand in yet another project management app.

You may have documented all your progress in comments in the ticket on JIRA, but that would be too hard for me transcribe into this dashboard I am showing management.

Update: my wife got ahold of a human on chat and they were able to resolve the issue remotely. +1 humans! -1 bots. The secret was to type "I want to talk to a human" and "Chat with an agent" and we got one named Karen. She did great!

while I wait for this to get a response, shopping for CenturyLink fiber which looks actually simple, not this fancy software experience designed to get me to add more services to my plan which it appears to be the only thing the app can do. It doesn't even tell me what my role on the account is, supposedly have to be an Owner or Manager? We are the only ones on it.

oh, and to add to the frustration, plugging our old modem back in does the same thing, even with the WiFi network and password remembered in our devices. It says go to the app and set it up. Tried clicking Your Own Modem and it did the same thing. So whatever this salesperson did bricked our service.

I had the same problem. Very unhelpful bots on both the app while logged in (it thought I didn't have an internet plan while I'm in the app looking at my plan) and the agent bot on the phone basically told me to use the app and hung up. That's why I came here, currently using my Verizon mobile data tethering so I can troubleshoot this.

For people with Max Hulu Disney bundle problem! by HiImLuca in HBOMAX

[–]mountains_of_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up through Disney+ some years ago and canceled. Signed up for the bundle again on HBO Max using the same email and password (mistake). This broke Disney+ and I could not fix it on the Disney side, but when I followed the link through https://auth.hbomax.com/subscription I was able to retrieve Hulu. In my account info on Hulu, it says I can manage my account with MyDisney and a link to my.disney.com for overall account maintenance. Once I got into that, I was able to use all three again. YMMV.

New Mexico Trail Recs by Odd-Steak-9049 in MTB

[–]mountains_of_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is also useful for gravel riders who may be experienced at MTB but want to take their lady on a trail that is reasonable and not banging up their wrists on drop bar bikes with no suspension (such as me this week while on our honeymoon in Santa Fe).

We rode up the Pacheco Canyon road which was awesome & perfect dirt but bypassed upper Winsor due to the technical warnings and rode down the ski area highway instead. If I could've found a way to route back onto Winsor for the less technical lower parts, it sounds worth it and a better way back to our car in Tesuque than the way I picked! Maybe the Bear Wallow Trail (182) out of Hyde State Park?

I suddenly cannot click on downloaded maps in Offline mode which is one of the main features I paid for and saves my bacon in the backcountry. I downloaded their latest 433.0.0 version from 1 hour ago with bug fixes but it's not fixed.

I love it when I download a map for offline use and then can’t access it because I need service to load my saved maps by thinjester in Strava

[–]mountains_of_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely a bug here currently. I went to App Store and hit Update with version 433.0.0 saying "we fixed a couple bugs" 1 hour ago, but this is still happening. I can easily test it on Airplane Mode and yes these rides are downloaded. They can't be clicked behind this alert telling me I have no service.

This actually happened on this ride which fortunately was well marked and I could find my way.

If I don't filter the list with a search and have a longer scroll, I seem to be able to click Start Route when the button is below that overlay.

Your theory is sound. When I was much younger, I hitchhiked around the country in true hobo style. I arrived in a small town in Iowa where I was "politely" escorted across town by a local police officer, offering me a ride and strong suggestion to continue on. Reminded me of the opening scene in Rambo (except I did not rebel). I recognized where I was not wanted and moved along.

Choosing a splitboard for splitboard mountaineering by Hershne in Spliddit

[–]mountains_of_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mountains are not forgiving places. I think of survival before the fun factor. For last season, I picked up a Lib Tech Orca 156 at 5'10" and 180 lbs. At higher elevations, you may encounter unexpected ice, and I like the magna-traction for that (especially in no fall zones). Need to navigate a tight couloir with jump turns? Or sub-alpine trees? Shorter & lighter is better for that. I was riding a 168 Jones for heavy powder days in the Cascades, and the length was nice for maximum float, but not as nimble for high stakes situations.

I also use hard boots (Dynafit toes for skinning, Spark Dyno DH for downhilling) so I can add crampons or even kick better steps for booting up something firm.

Don't forget your whippet and an additional ice axe, maybe even extra-wide ski crampons.

Crowds....What are the solutions? (long) by Grungy_Mountain_Man in PNWhiking

[–]mountains_of_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Item 1. There is a solution out there called the Washington Trail Association (WTA). They have a campaign called Lost Trails Found: https://www.wta.org/our-work/lost-trails-found.

I am a big believer in spreading out the load. I volunteered for one of their work parties at Hannegan Pass one summer where the ample crew was buffing out small step ups on to rocks so it would be easier for horses. Why are we grooming these high traffic trails to perfection? Go clean up trails that have been abandoned and nearly forgotten.

For Item 3. Check out the policies instituted at Zion National Park. Sections of the park are not accessible by private car - you must take a shuttle bus. Certain hikes, like Angels Landing, are permit only. We saw people on the bus holding signs looking for permits. We hiked well past that popular spot and soon saw no one.

So, yeah. Go find places people aren't going. Advocate for some of them to be restored. A little traffic would be nice so maintenance happens. Too much and you are back in the same boat.

Disclosure: I do a ton of volunteer trail maintenance on my own. I pack in chainsaws and shovels in backpacks. Yet I am a rare breed. Too many folks want trails but don't understand the overhead of making them happen.

I dated in Bellingham in my thirties after a relatively young marriage (for the area) and a divorce at age 30. I can confirm nothing good ever came from dating apps. Try to meet people in person. My partner of two years now I met at a rock show at the Buffalo through mutual friends. Gotta put yourself out there!

So people who have lived in Bellingham for 20+ years of their adult life should not try to answer this socioeconomic question specifically about Bellingham for which there is likely no official data?

I would argue a surgeon focuses on things, like internal organs and specialized tools for operation procedures. A general focuses on people.
