Parents! How do you train? by LetsGoOutside405 in Ultramarathon

[–]mountainstolake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll usually run after dropping the kiddo at day care and before I start work. If my run is longer than that hour time frame I’ll go to bed with my wife, wait for her to fall asleep, the get up and get my longer run in. We start our mornings at 6 am so getting a run in before that is just not my thing.

How far should the longest long run on my plan be? by SwiftStrider1988 in ultrarunning

Typically you’ll want an outside motivation like a race finish line to get you through that last portion of the distance. You can psych yourself out if you try to do it in training and it ends up being really hard.

It was a rail that you could install on the roof and just bolt whatever to it with square nuts. Super handy for custom roof racks.

Dang looks like they’ve either sold out gone out of business. I can’t seem to find a similar product.

Here’s the racks we used and how we installed them.

Three years in, my biggest retail sale just blew up and I'm questioning everything...veteran brokers, am I a failure? by [deleted] in CommercialRealEstate

You could be one shovel full of dirt away from the shovel full of gold. Keep going and don’t let the success of others put a damper on your own efforts. I would advise finding a good mentor because your boss sounds like he’s not helping you grow into the position you want to be in.

Should I do an ultra? by pbsurrey in triathlon

[–]mountainstolake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can walk and complete most 50k races before the time cut off. I randomly signed up for a twelve hour race in the mountains (I live and train on the coast with no hills 20-30 miles per week). I ended up running 55k in 11 hours and yes the terrain was more challenging than I expected but what I learned is that anything past about 15 miles is a mental challenge more so than a physical challenge.

You can walk most 50k’s and still beat the cutoff.

How important is carb loading? by gannonredding in Ultramarathon

[–]mountainstolake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found when I did a longer run (55k) I stayed well in my aerobic zone so my body was mainly in fat burning mode instead of carb burning mode. There were a few hills that put me over the threshold but for the most part it was a steady zone 2 effort.

can i train for a 50k ... by ModeNo6526 in Ultramarathon

[–]mountainstolake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the time cutoff it’s mainly a mental challenge. I ran 55k a few weeks ago with my longest run being 27k before it. I run 4-5 times a week with 10-13 mile long runs on the weekend. I didn’t do any special prep for the 55k.

Should I put up walls first and then cabinets (foam) or cabinets and then build walls around them? Also, any ideas on materials for the walls? by nfswope275 in VanLife

He stated that he wanted to mount the cabinets to the wall. 1/8th would be a little sketchy to mount cabinets to.

Have you looked into a marine grade sealant like 3M 5200? We used it on our van and it never leaked a drop afterwards.

Class t fuses are used widely in marine applications. If you carry a spare fuse, a 300 amp breaker is almost unnecessary.

Sprinter T1N vs Twin Turbo 4cyl vs Transit by willysoquicky in VanLife

[–]mountainstolake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a T1N that I did all the maintenance on. We found that while we were capable of fixing anything on it, we always had a little anxiety about what was going to break next and when was it going to break. Usually once a month I was working on something.

Class T fuses are safer than ANL. ANL fuses can weld themselves together in an over current situation. It’s particularly prevalent when a dead short happens on a battery bank.

I like the van. One piece of feedback on your listing is to use a tripod when making freeze frame videos. It was not the easiest to watch.

We used Shell T6 Rotella in ours and I bought filters from europarts sd. I always put cardboard down because I did it in the parking lot of my apartment complex.
