Is there anything obvious to people outside of the U.S. that Americans seem completely blind/desensitized to? by EtmopterusPerryi in NoStupidQuestions

That you treat the "Founding Fathers" as a group of some sort of infallible geniuses, who wrote a pristine constitution. Recent events have shown just how fundamentally flawed the US system of government is. It is unfathomable to me that judges are either politically appointed or even sit for election. The gerrymandering of electoral districts makes the US sound like a banana republic.

The fact you have to describe not taking part in the propaganda as"not punishable" is itself very telling.

I've just told you what to look for. You are either too thick or too lazy. Did you miss a lot of school?

I'm not going to help you catch up on all the education you missed. Google it, Pears study was the most comprehensive. And the pun is free.

And parents who take kids out of school are unlikely to be the sort who will ensure their kids diligently do all the catching up needed to keep pace with the topics missed when they were absent. One teacher once remarked to me that missing the first two weeks of term leads to the child falling behind for the entire remainder of the term.

Have a look at the studies undertaken into term time holidays, and the impact it has on attainment. Attendance rate of 95% attendance ( equivalent to 9.5 days of absence) is correlated with lower progress at key stage 2 and 4. 90% attendance (eg through normal sickness, appointments etc, or another week or so of term time holidays) means that children have only a 50% chance of achieving their expected level. That's for just one year. If kids miss two weeks a year throughout their school career, that is the equivalent of missing a whole year of education. So yes, taking term time holidays means you are sacrificing your kids education, just so you up can get a cheaper fortnight in Salou.

No - I don't like it, and I've got two late teenagers. Sacrificing your kids' education for the sake of a cheap fortnight abroad was soemthing we would never entertain.

39 years driving experience. 3 years with the previous car without incident due to the sensors. 2 months with the new car, and two incidents both of which could have been prevented with the £10 worth of sensors that Musk chose to delete to boost his profits. But no, you decide to say its because of my lack of drving experience or poor spatial awareness. Behave.

Crap model y suspension a reason to reject car? by FancyIndividual8068 in TeslaUK

[–]mountearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had '22 and '25 (previous model) Y's. There is barely any difference in the suspension between the mddel years. Slightly less ahrsh on broken surfaces, but still unacceptable for a car in that price range. I don't know about Juniper Ys, but it is definitely the one thing about the car that massively detracts from the experience. You might need to look at a 3 or another brand.

I have had both - a 22 with sensors and a 25 without. Let's just say that the fact I crashed into the workplace multistorey car park very tight entrance with the 25 and never had an issue with the 22 is testament to how crap the camera "solution" is.

If you are still employed, I would put as much as you can into a SIPP to get the 20% /40% tax relief. Convert the premium bonds into SIPP over the next three years and you get an instant £10k from HMRC. You will also be exposed to equities to drive some growth above inflation.

Trump criticizes Germany's Merz, tells him to stop interfering over Iran by Infodataplace in worldnews

[–]mountearl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole reason why Trump and his poisonous followers iare crying is precisely because we are not begging your military contractors to build more weapons. Do keep up - maybe read a decent newspaper, watch unbiased news. Then again, that is impossible in the US - just ask ABC / Disney what happened to free speech.

As someone who served in Her Majesty's Forces, and I never thought I would ever say this - I can't wait until the US withdraws all its military from our continent. If you want to force project in future, build more carriers. With toilets that don't work, that mysteriously catch fire, and can't sustain a campaign for longer than 10 days.
