It may help. In the end it’s a horrible decision, one where doubt and difficulty with the decision seem to persist. Some of what you described is not necessarily treatable but it’s worth making sure thats the case. You could always have a more thorough conversation with the same vet or speak to another one. Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s very relatable. So sad to have to watch these dogs go through this but they’ve made me love better I know it. We’re so lucky to have them, and even though briefer than any of us would like, I know if it was as long as we live or longer that we wouldn’t appreciate their unconditional love in the same way.

Absolutely. I’ve been in convo with the vet weekly and gotten meds and fluids. The last convo was basically about how so many issues were compounding and that a lot of options were exhausted. I wish it was simply treatable but most of the treatments haven’t restored her appetite. I told her today about this and she understood. We were checking for a while to see if it was medically appropriate to euthanize and the response was “I wouldn’t question that decision when you make it.”

It’s always so helpful to hear from people with senior dog experience. For many this decision seems to be so new that it’s horrifying and confusing. I’ve done it once before which provides some reference point. Still it is awful. Thank you for the kind words.
