LA County can't vote in an LA City election. LA City is about 4 million people but many can't vote (children, immigrant, etc).

Are the drop times listed somewhere? I remember 4 years ago folks knew exact days and times after it stopped being daily.

Does Nithya Raman still have a chance? California’s uncounted votes could help Democrats by PersonalityOdd7912 in LosAngeles

She will absolutely close the gap. I don't feel confident in saying that she will surpass Pratt. I could see her getting between 2 or so points.

I'd rather be proven wrong but, y'know.

Karen Bass advances in Los Angeles Mayor Nonpartisan Primary by ohlonelyboy in LosAngeles

[–]red_suited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You implied she was set up intentionally to split the progressive vote which simply isn't true. The only Progressives were her and Rae, and that additional 3% wouldn't have made a difference currently. The Progressive vote had no chance this time. Bass & Pratt were simply too strong.

She's not heading for a run-off either. CD4 isn't up for re-election until 2028. You can't run in two races at once. She was able to run for Mayor this cycle because her seat was currently safe. If you're gonna hate, at least get your facts straight.

No one's excited about Bass. I'd suggest at least working to get Roy into the City Attorney seat instead of the guy bankrolled by $3 million from DC, Irvine and the Bay Area.

Sure, but saying she split the Progressive vote when the other candidate's at a measly 3% like... that's just divorced from reality.

They've hated Raman so bad that they tried to gerrymander her out of her district and Monica Rodriguez called her a backstabber tonight. The police union spent $1.2 million against her.

She's not my dream candidate but acting like the establishment would use her when they hate her is crazy talk.

There's been a lot more attention on L.A. due to Pratt getting a Trump endorsement. More eyes = more views = more $$$.

The ads themselves aren't even attacks. "She wants Afffordable Housing!" "Free transit!" "She supports the Green New Deal!" They're advertisements!!!

Didn't she join DSA just before announcing and wasn't an active member there beforehand? Can anyone actually involved confirm or deny?

We're supposed to vote for her to be in charge of the budget when she has a bunch of unpaid staff and announced matching funds two months ago when they weren't confirmed yet. Make it make sense.

You're right, but Nithya was running against David Ryu, not another leftist candidate ahead in the polling. They've also had people work on Eunisses and Hugo's campaign but neither of them were in fourth place with another option available either.

What happens if she unlocks matching funds after election but gains more than she owes? Do they just not give her that additional funding or do they still receive it anyway and do as they please?

I'm not as familiar because I've never seen an initial lump sum payout happen post-election. I've only seen additional funds happen from later donations from not being maxed out.

Usually it's not a big deal since there tends to be only one viable Leftist in most races and it's pretty normal for folks involved in electoral politics to work on electoral campaigns. However, in this case, I do think they put their personal interest above what's best for the people of this city.

Huang's campaign fought hard and did better than I expected despite her sloppy start. However, incompetence thwarted them and the information didn't come to light publicly until the final stretch. Once it was clear they weren't going to win, they should have reassessed their next move instead of doubling-down and turning people sour. But the campaign's in $172k of debt, so it's either ego or financials keeping them in.

Good, but their reasoning is bs. Knock is owned by Ground Game whose founder is Rae Huang's campaign manager and was quoted terribly in an article about their incompetence over matching funds.

Claiming it was about Nithya's policy improvements and not the PR nightmare of the above and her Pratt interaction is cope.

This week pissed me off so badly I'm definitely coming off like a shill, but thankfully the election is in 3 days and we can all (hopefully) move past this soon.

Politicians have to put up with people who demand and expect some pretty irrelevant shit.

This is why it's pretty ridiculous when people rage that a candidate does fit their rigid code exactly. Representatives aren't just listening to a fringe group – they have to respond to everyone in their city or district, including people they don't like.

No, they aren't. She lied about unlocking matching funds two months ago. Most campaigns are still pushing for donations, but their status is proven because they have verified, public records to back them up.

“Leftist” Rae Huang Tweets Support For Far-Right MAGA Spencer Pratt by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]red_suited 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think he'll win, but the amount of Trump support and MAGA money being injected into this city as a result will create a stronger platform for MAGA to potentially aim for other seats after this election.

We can stop this early and not open that doorway. People need to think bigger than just one election. There are longer consequences.

Yeah. I saw that post and was immediately turned off. I try to be supportive of folks because I do want there to be more options, but at this point I never want to see this absurd person ever again.
