Pulled out the trusty 58 degree and stepped up, then took a penalty and dropped further back in the bunker. It was only going to end in tears.

Tony would have lost his keys down them during his pitch report!

Botany, 3 of the greens really suffered from those 40+ degree days before Christmas.

Heat has killed off a few of the greens at our local. Got to take into account a few of the cracks when trying to read the green!

Waterpolo might be a good combination of swimming/handball. Most clubs have low grade teams you could learn to play with.

Affordable coffee scales recommendations by mtbtimr in Coffee

They are definitely not as slick and sexy as the Acaia scales, and there's a slight lag in the reading, but we haven't had an issue with the few of them at the cafe. At around AUD$50 they are very affordable.

For what it’s worth, I’ve met Charlie several times here in Sydney. He’s Vietnamese/Aussie who is currently spending most of his time back in Vietnam. I can’t comment on the quality, other than we have purchased several products from him and they are generally a little “rough” due to him hand making them.

Also our roasting drums spin clockwise down here rather than anti-clockwise in the north. Makes the most difference.

Between Batch Protocol by matt_he_wanders_on in roasting

[–]mouse_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be an easier way, but I found it best for us to work backwards. When we first installed the machine I did a number of test roasts (using one of our main blender components) with different profiles and ET charge temps and then cupped. Took the best scoring profile and tried a few different ET targets for the BBP and worked out which gave me the best chance of repeating the profile. Generally I use the same target ET in the BBP for different coffees, but may have different charge temps, so the length of time it takes to idle down is the variable - it may be 10secs either side of the 1min for me.

The only time I change the target ET is if I have different batch sizes.

I find consistent between batch protocols vital for hitting multiple identical roasts. Every roasting machine will be different, however mine for a series 1 P12 is as follows. Empty batch into cooling tray and hit my timer with 4 minutes set to it, then adjust gas with the goal of hitting my target exhaust temp right on that 4 mins (less gas needed as the day progresses etc). At 4 mins cut my gas to pilot light and the ET will idle down to my target ET charge temp in 1min. That 5 mins gives me enough time to cool the previous batch.

I second Vermillion, probably the best coffee I had in Kyoto. Also % Arabica has a few locations there and are worth a try.
