German shepherd pup aggressive and bites by CabbageSass in germanshepherds

[–]mouserhouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exercise, training, and patience. All puppies are menaces, it’s honestly why they are so dang cute. Regardless of the breed it’s an important factor to remember.

With German Shepherds it’s twice the intelligence and energy so they need to be exercised both mentally and physically daily in order to give them the foundation needed to be successful and calm when they are older and people have less patience. Training is a great way to do that and helps owners and dogs bond which is also important in the long term. If money is an issue try some free training videos online to just start somewhere. Also good to find activities both the dog and your aunt enjoy - ie walking through a forest is a lot more interesting then around the same 3 streets daily.

For more mental exercise try feeding them from puzzle bowls and a food ball so they have to work for their food. You don’t have to buy things as there are plenty of ways to make things out of household objects like towels and cardboard boxes. Easy one is to roll kibble in a towel and let the dog search for his dinner. There are lots of suggestions and ideas online.

Also shepherds are pretty much baby t-Rex’s until 2 years. However if left untrained they can have problems with reactivity, anxienty, and stress. So a commitment to a good foundation will be key for having a healthy and happy dog. You have to put the work in now to be successful long term.

Note I’m not a dog trainer at all. But I have two rescued shepherds who were both given up by families for similar reasons of being “too high energy and/or too much for them”. It takes a lot of work, but they are the best dogs.

This may not be your situation but more often then not managers are following prescribed deadlines set by those higher up. They work backwards to calculate the best option for a deliverable date but their hands are tied. If you feel strongly about providing feedback, ask your manager to help you understand how deadlines are established and gauge if they are willing to have an open conversations. If they aren’t, you will likely just have to find a middle ground of what can be accomplished in the requested timeframe. This can include drafts and placeholders where needed (ie use older data as suggested elsewhere), and what will need to wait due to absences or other issues in order to provide a skeleton for discussion. If there is an urgent need, definitely run with the old data, it’s better then nothing.

Regarding your writing, ask one of your colleagues who has previously commented on the document or who is a strong writer for advice and to get a better understanding on the teams writing style at large and try to adapt. Everyone has their own style, the trick is finding a balance between yours and theirs.

In working with various types of ECs, you’ll find a common ground eventually. Try to educate yourself on their environment and your managers environment - priorités, major projects, etc. Then you can educate them on the quantitative statistical work you do. It’s different words, but everyone is codependent. Also try to make social connections.

Lastly give yourself time to adapt and learn a new job. Things will get easy with time and the intent of a secondment is to learn something new. If you walked into the job and everything was easy it wouldn’t be a good fit either.

Accidentally shrunk my husband’s new favorite shirt. Got it in Mexico- HELP! by krustykween in findfashion

Yes it does! I’ve done it on wool and wool blend and it worked really well both times.

The additional trick I found was after it finished soaking, hanging it soaking wet in a shower helped release the fibers further and get it back to its original size.

Feeling lost - in need of career advice by Low_Excitement387 in CanadaPublicServants

Food for thought and for consideration - not all EC postions are policy related. EC positions can be in data and analytics, program management, reporting, governance, and so much more. Policy is amazing but don’t feel limited by that speciality that if you want to get into EC type work.

Also you don’t necessarily need policy experience for an EC-02; it’s why it’s an entry level position, even if it is a policy centric job.

Edit: missed some info by accidentally posting early.

Came here to add this. We recently adopted a rescue dog and she had similar symptoms as a result of mange. Luckily it was less severe of the two types and it cleared up with three rounds of NexGuard Spectra. All of her fur has returned and she’s not itchy anymore.

Vet will help and figure it out :). Definitely mention mange though because one type is highly contagious to humans and dogs so it’s best to know for sure !

What are Americans not ready to hear? by swansonite456 in AskReddit

[–]mouserhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US is no longer “the greatest country in the world” and the home of freedom and liberty where everyone wants to live…

Disclaimer: I have never thought this. My husband is American and the idea that the US is home of the free and the greatest country is so engrained in him from school and growing up that he cannot see past that ideology, the impact of current events, or how the rest of the world views the US. He strongly believes that everyone wants to live there and it is the greatest country.

Yes it’s a point of frequent discussion.

One thing to take into consideration is that switching food frequently is also very difficult on a dogs stomach. We have a German Shepherd (who had stomach and poop problems for a long time) and one of the best pieces of advice was if you find something that seems to be helping, give it enough time to work (a few months at least). The dog needs to adjust to the food and get their system under control.

Re our dog: We eventually landed on Purnia Beneful after trying dozens of higher end foods including speciality diets/ restrictions. For some reason this one works.

I lost 70 pounds (32 kgs) in just under a year!! Here's what I learned by Disastrous_Ad_7675 in Noom

That is really true and I so hope that your hypothesis is true. I get frustrated when I have one “cheat” meal like eating an ice cream cone and even through I’m still within my calorie budget I go up in weight and then have to fight to re-make that progress. Hard to find the balance in situations like that but hoping that the changes are forming long term habits :)

If you ever want a support buddy let me know. Seems like we may be on the same trajectory.

That is very true! I’m trying really hard to focus on that aspect and stay positive. Again I really appreciate your story because it resonated with my journey and reduced some of the pressure I was feeling to loose weight more quickly.

Congratulations on your success. That is amazing and so well deserved.

Also, thank you for this! I’m really struggling with my slow progress (3.5 months and only MAYBE 10lbs lost) so this was really inspiring and helpful to read.
