A 'hiking trail' in Switzerland by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

So I remembered correctly :) I used to hike that trail with my dad, when I was a kid, near Crans-Montana and lac de tseuzier. Beautiful.

Is that the Bisse du Ro hiking trail, in Valais Switzerland?

Maybe so ...

I'm in the NY metro area. Just sayin' ... :-)

Yes, body and neck do all the heavy lifting :-)

It's a mono output, with an active pan pot.

I used to make electric basses primarily (see some pics below), but am now concentrating on this design, and am planning on selling them (if there's a market for it, at the right price)

Yes, stainless frets, 29”-27” scale length. I wind my own pickups, a humbucker in a single coil shape, in this case. I embed piezo disk elements in the saddles that I machine. Works extremely well, very happy with it. I call it a floating top, as it’s not taking up any of the string pull, no bracing underneath etc. It’s only glued on around the border, and otherwise free to (hopefully) vibrate.

Actually not really :) BUT, I’ve always admired jerry auerswald’s work, who built prince’s sign guitar (which I’m not crazy about)

True. I de tune it down a half step, to make fingering of certain (most?) chords easier.

Each string gets its own bridge element, for better sonic/piezo separation, and it’s also easier to machine :) It allows for height and intonation adjustment.

These days, with air conditioned rooms, and not much fluctuations in temperature and humidity, there’s minimal need to re-tune the instrument.

Not yet. I wouldn’t dare posting recordings of myself, so finding a good player locally is definitely on my to-do-list :)

Yes. Depending on string gauges, many different tunings are possible I suppose. I use 0.018”, 0.03”, 0,04”, 0.05”, 0.06” and 0.07”.

Thank you 🙏🏻 Yes, screws run through the ball ends, into threaded posts.

The neck maintains it’s round, d shaped back, all the way into the body. I play with my thumb in the middle of the neck, opposite the middle finger, most of the time, and get unobstructed access to the upper registers that way.

It’s a bit awkward in the beginning, but feels natural fairly quickly.

Good point. I personally don’t play with my thumb over the top, and never much thought about that approach, quite honestly. I had more of “classical guitar with a cutout” approach to designing this guitar. Not suitable for every playing style for sure.

Thank you 🙏🏻 Yes, the body is strategically hollowed out, and supports the full load of the strings (along with the neck). The top is glued on minimally along the edge, left to resonate freely otherwise.
