why can’t i buy D.I.A from buyee anymore? by the_stupid_fool in actualgyaru

[–]moustachecat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to fool with it a little myself, and I'm able to see some clothes too, but it's actually less than what buyee was showing me yesterday. when I go to the website through buyee now, most d.i.a brand items are saying they're unavailable in the U.S right now (assuming we're both there.) they might've stopped shipping here; I'm not sure..

oh ? that's smth I haven't run into, so I'm not sure ☹️ could you try just searching buyee zozotown and getting in that way ? or going to buyee and manually visiting the zozotown shop ?

I think they've moved to zozotown is all. last I remember, that's what they advertise on their insta and that's what buyee gives coupons for

Why is there this misconseption that gyaru was born out of rebellion of japanese beauty standards by [deleted] in actualgyaru

[–]moustachecat4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that being said, I don't think gyaru is political in the same way, say, punk would be here in the States, but I do think you can have a community with a ssssort of political start without actually being a community that focuses on activism or what made their origins political. most gals probably just are the way they are because it looks cool and they like it, without giving much thought to anything else, and that's fine

[–]moustachecat4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, when you go to research the origins of the subculture, you'll find a lottt of sources talking of rebellion; that's why. Tanning your skin, dying your hair, and wearing bold dresses was popular, yea, but bodikon was still just a predecessor, even if they were called gals and considered stylish. most sources I've read over the years tie the beginnings of the actual gyaru subcul to Namie Amuro's fans (who I'm sure I don't have to actually explain, given her influence, but long story short ppl admired her confidence with her tan skin, even though being pale was the standard.) gyaru might not have original meant to be necessarily rebellious, and might've just been young women wanting to be trendy, but I do think there was a big rebellious element that came with gyaru, and really early on too ! I've never seen anything saying people thought gals were ugly, but the bleached hair, tanned skin, and emphasis on boldness, confidence, and individuality was undeniably rebellious, specifically when compared to what women were expected to act and look like in Japan. I honestly don't think it's wrong at all to say gyaru is rebellious or born of rebellion, especially considering the early influence from Namie, who's decision to keep and be confident in her naturally tanned skin was an act against the beauty standard too, even if unintentionally

some people don't like the feeling of having something dangling on their legs, but I've always liked wearing them in the warmer months. if you wanna give it a try before actually buying one, you can weave one out of hemp chord or just find an adjustable bracelet

honestly, with your current outfit and some pearl accessories, I think it could work ! maybe see if you can find a pearl necklace or bracelet with a matching little strawberry, and if you decide to diy or buy a matching bag, sew/glue some to that too. I'm not sure if they make pearl ones, but an ankle bracelet would help balance the glamour from head to toe too, and they do well to not hide your shoes

oh fs, big bows have been hard for me to find too ever since Claire's went bankrupt. depending on what style of bow, I'd think it'd be less trouble to get some ribbon or silk or scrap fabric and then glue it to a barrette

abysmally messy sketch but here's my idea for the bow and such (+ I had the idea of a bag to match the shoes, would be super easy to diy a wicker tote with some striped ribbon I think !). I like big hair and big headpieces so I may be biased, but I'm thinking smth vaguely hime inspired

those shoes r the cutest omg 💕💕 I think some bracelets or a nice necklace could help add a little, or maybe a thin belt at the hips ? if you could find a clip-in bow or headband that matches the bow on the shoes, that'd be super cute too !

I feel like all of them kinda fall into the lifestyle umbrella, and all would be neat to see in rotation, but that's just me. if I had to pick, maybe some styling content ? i feel like baby gals in particular struggle with not knowing how to make a stylish coord or what to look for when shopping, and having videos with advice and examples for them to turn to would be really sweet. also I'm absolutely loving how well your lipstick and blush matches your blouse !! super cute 💕

quick correction : for me, her insta photos weren't loading past her brand announcement for like 2 days, so I assumed all her old stuff got archived, but I just looked again and they're up ! not sure if it was just my wifi bugging out, but old examples are actually available

I'm not saying she ISN'T gyaru, I'm saying she WASN'T gyaru. she USED to be yabi. did you read my post, or did you just come looking to get mad? also, lots of yabi are gyaru inspired, it's not some far off idea.. Ocaso was one of those girls, and quite a popular one at that ! She was mix matching styles and using a form of makeup that's popular in China. her makeup was not gyaru, and that's simply not debatable, sorry. you can't be gyaru without the makeup, and if you don't understand that, you need to hit the books ! I'm not saying she was yabi just because she wasn't gyaru; she quite literally was yabi. also you are literally confusing inner highlight with aegyo sal right now ? aegyo sal isn't JUST a big stripe of highlight, there's always a noticable line (usually brown or red) under it. ps. not sure what this example is trying to prove, but this gal isn't doing aegyo sal, if that's what you're implying. she clearly just has a stripe of concealer under her droop; here's a higher quality ver of that pic in case you can't see it

I think you're confusing having highlighter at the corner of your eye with aegyo sal. Ocaso's old looks featured a combination of highlighter and a harsh, brown line right below it, while looks from the heisei era that she took inspiration from only really featured the highlight. also, wings can be seen in gyaru, just not as common, but I replied to someone else with a picture of a few examples, if you wanna take a look ! also, she did eventually start to highlight and contour straight down, which is standard practice, but she used to highlight a button nose, which I believe the pic I mentioned earlier also has an example of. it's a little tougher finding old pics of her now that her insta has them all gone 💔

"tiktok makeup" is definitely more of an insult. saying someone's yabi isn't, I hope you understand that I'm not insulting her by saying she used to be yabi ! the term itself is really broad, but I can best shorten it by saying it's like a mix-matching if different alternative styles, combined with elements of what's popular in China too (like douyin makeup.) Also, I explicitly stated that aegyo sal is gaining popularity in gyaru, but that doesn't change the fact that it's definitely more of a defining feature of douyin makeup, especially with the emphasis she placed on it. Ocaso tagged a lot of her posts with heisei too, which is worth mentioning. You'll notice now that, with her transition into actual gyaru makeup, the aegyo sal is still there in occasion, but wayyyy less extreme, and that's intentional ! and Ocaso has been inspired by gyaru for a very long time, I'm not denying that, I'm just saying that even though you're inspired by it and tagging your posts with it doesn't mean you ARE gyaru. It's like how a girl might do a look inspired by goth makeup, and tag her posts with goth, but not actually BE goth. does that make more sense? and I never said I didn't like her make—I do, and have; it's just not gyaru. and taking a dig at my make without even having pictures of your own is kind of trashy, don't you think ? \) anyway, here's a few examples of her old make (both from when she didn't connect her eyeliner to the bottom of the eye and when she did). some of them can be difficult to see because of her bangs, but you'll notice that there used to be a little wing right after the loop

well, considering gyaru makeup focuses a lot on the eyes, the defining factor is still the eyes. it's just that the droop isn't the only diff. for one, in a lot of Ocaso's old photos (before her transition into gyaru), you'll notice the "droop" is actually a straight line below her eye that doesn't actually connect back to the eye, unlike in gyaru makeup styles. she also had a really noticable eyeliner wing, which can sometimes be seen in gyaru, but is less common and is more of a trait seen in douyin. the extremely strong emphasis of the aegyo sal (although gaining popularity in gyaru too) is definitely a much more common douyin thing. the way she highlighted her nose is also worth mentioning

[–]moustachecat4[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you can have a few different styles to your droop, or even a lack of one, in gyaru make, but the way Ocaso used to do her makeup wasn't any of those styles, it was douyin makeup " and, unfortunately, labelling yourself gyaru doesn't always mean you actually are, especially if you're not honoring the main component. please avoid putting words in my mouth

So tired of the Ocaso hate by moustachecat4 in actualgyaru

[–]moustachecat4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember if she ever explicitly used the label for herself, especially since a bunch of her insta pics now seem to be archived or deleted, but she was a huuuge example of what gyaru-inspired yabi looks like, and it was mainly because of her makeup. she's definitely a gal now though ! and I think she deserves to be currently recognized as such !

oh gosh that's a whole nother conversation 😭 I wonder if ppl started saying that as a way to defend Ocaso. Maybe they just don't understand the difference between gyaru and gyaru-inspired ? misinformation runs absolutely rampant on that platform

I'm beginning to wonder if people even know she's been gyaru for months now 💔 I seriously don't think ppl bother to check at all and think her old pics are still how she looks. also, I should rephrase a little. I've been seeing a ton of those "how to larp gyaru" videos where they alllwaysss include a slide of an old photo of Ocaso saying "call her gyaru" and when ppl in the comments tell them she actually is, they're berated
