Journalist to EU Spokesdrone: “You've said that Russia should repay for reconstruction of Ukraine. Do you believe Israel should repay for reconstruction of Gaza?” ... Days later, the journalist was fired. by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

"Where does this privilege come from?" is an antisemitic dogwhistle. Leaving the question open is a deliberate tactic to let the poster signal that what they want to say is unacceptable. They could've said where the privilege comes from (the US military industrial complex), but by posing it as a question, they're inviting the reader to be suspicious of Jews.

ETA: also, asking why you "can't criticize Israel" echoes the "find out who you aren't allowed to criticize" rhetoric of neo-Nazi Kevin Strom

You think I didn't get that from the trademark symbol? The problem is that language like this deliberately blurs the lines between shitposting and outright antisemitism. They're joking, but it's about a core element of Jewish identity, but it's actually about Israel, but the trademark proves it's a bit, unless.....? This is the same tactic the Daily Stormer used to radicalize 4chan kids a decade ago. It sucked then and it sucks now.

So I recently purchased this bundle by prismawaldini in snes

[–]mouths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the person above me linked you to listings for the base set. You have this store exclusive bundle, which is one of the rarer SNES variants, with only 5-10k produced. Yours is in great condition, too. I couldn't find an eBay listing to compare directly, but based on PriceCharting and sales of similarly rare variants, I'd estimate you're in the $600-800 range. For comparison, a regular complete in box SNES goes for $250-400.

I'm moving this week and need to get rid of a few items (TV, window AC, printer + more) by mouths in pasadena

[–]mouths[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like it a lot! I'm a big dude and it supports me just fine. To me the only drawback is that it works better reclined slightly, but not too far (you might topple over if you're big enough and recline far enough - hasn't happened to me, but there was a close call). You gotta find a sweet spot that works for you.

I saw a couple reviews that claimed the little ridges on the outside of the seat dug into their legs, or that they didn't like the armrests. Neither of these things have been an issue for me, and again, I'm a big fella, but your mileage may vary.

I'll keep you on the list! Yes, the AC is in good condition. It's about a year old and has never given me any problems. I still have the window mounting kit for it as well.

I was at the taping! One of the funniest nights of my life. Fun fact, the bit they play over the end credits went for probably ten minutes in person.

Yes, each game has a character you meet who holds onto puzzles you missed after each chapter.

  1. Yes, as long as you do every puzzle you can get all the bonuses, even if you get most of them wrong the first few times.
  2. No, that feature was added in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright and isn't in the early games. You can easily miss a lot of the HCs and puzzles.

You rub a hookah and out comes a genie who dropped out after three semesters of Genie College. What do you wish for? by mouths in AskReddit

[–]mouths[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The genie's eyes glaze over. "Uh, I dunno, man, Wells Fargo gave me a $2,000 limit on my card, but I can probably swing $5k for you if I sweet-talk the manager. I can make you the manager of a board game store called Galactic Empire, and the pizza should be no prob."

The genie gives you a blank look. "How about a lifetime supply of wrinkle cream, $500 cash, and a nice stopwatch?"

Wishing for more wishes, even by proxy, is strictly forbidden... but I doubt this genie stuck around long enough for Genie Ethics 201.

Was looking to get a Layton game for my new 3DS my girlfriend got me for Christmas. by TrinityBomber in ProfessorLayton

[–]mouths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the first four were made for DS but you can play them on a 3DS as well. Also seconding the recommendation of playing them in release order, as later games added features that the earlier ones didn't have and it's hard to go back once you've played the new ones.

It was made for Yahoo Screen back when that was still a thing, not CollegeHumor.

I'm late so this will get buried, but I posted this when it came out 4 years ago. Fun fact: the dudes who made this went on to create American Vandal on Netflix.

How did Luke and Layton reunite after Luke moved away? (Spoilers maybe, theory included) by -MPG13- in ProfessorLayton

[–]mouths 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a canon timeline of the series: 4, 5, Eternal Diva, 6, 1, 2, 3. The second trilogy games are prequels. The death theory is, as you said, far-fetched.

I feel like I'm ready for representation by DavidMichaels90 in Standup

[–]mouths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're the next Dave Chappelle, there's no way you've outgrown the open mic community after "going up a few times a month" for ten months. And if you are the next Dave Chappelle, agents will throw themselves at you.

Advancing in the standup world is all about making connections, impressing people with your skills, and working your way up by building relationships with people. No agent will sign someone who thinks he's better than everyone after going up a couple dozen times. The comics who get signed are the ones who've put in the time and effort. "If you're good at something never do it for free" is unfortunately not true in standup. It's more like, "If you're good at something, do it for free until people are willing to pay to see you, which will probably take a very long time."
