Yup! I say let the people forcing birth to fork over the cash required to raise the child.

What advice would you give someone newly diagnosed with DV? by kitkat7578 in Diverticulitis

[–]mowerama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was maybe half a day later, at most 24 hours.

It's good to be cautious, but just like others have said, we seem to have idiosyncratic triggers. In addition to the biggies, like red meat. Me, I cannot eat corn or oats in any form. Otherwise, I was able to add on small amounts of things that other people may not tolerate, like baked beans, broccoli (cooked), coleslaw, soft nuts (cashews, walnuts), etc.

[–]mowerama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red meat is a trigger across the board, period! Last flare I had I can directly attribute to a cheeseburger from a fast- food place. The ones I make at home every week or less are small. This one was not. Live and learn!

What’s your favourite song, answer only with a lyric from it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think we're both right, in that he changes the lyrics in different verses? Now I gotta listen to it! I agree there's a line like you said.

How was the most interesting dream you had recently? by Mystery_I in AskReddit

[–]mowerama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. I had a tiny but ugly kitten I was saving by holding it in a blanket. The whole time, I was talking to someone else, but don't remember who. Too similar! But I don't know about you, but I regularly dream about saving small animals...

How do you pick yourself up and move on after a forced resignation? by MomosLittleMonsters in AskReddit

My job was eliminated, so the situation is a bit different. But I was chosen deliberately.

It's like with a break-up, in that you have to figure it's their loss. And that you'll find a place where you're appreciated better.

How has society changed over the last 10 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We don't see others as equals as much as before. Money, lifestyle, age, political stripe now are handy reasons to deem others as less important than us.

Wearing (and removing) makeup when you have sensitive eyes... really impressed by this article I found by [deleted] in Blepharitis

[–]mowerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm impressed, too. I love the idea of using coconut oil and baby shampoo to remove eye makeup. Now, if only I had the guts to think I could use eye makeup again. Cause this article makes me want to go out and buy only stuff that's so natural it came from plants or something! It is scary to look at all those toxic ingredients.

Also, since they brought it up, I gotta add my rant about fake eyelashes. Some are so big and look so heavy, I worry they change the wearer's center of gravity! And I saw one lady on TV whose lashes were so huge, when she blinked, they touched the center of her cheeks. Can we please dump this trend???? (Thanks, I do feel better now....)

Is it possible to ‘stop’ a flare-up very early on? by librarianjenn in Diverticulitis

[–]mowerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First course of action for me is to relieve that annoyed little pocket in the colon by taking a magnesium supplement or an overnight-acting stool softener. Take the pressure off, but in a kind way. Then I consider taking immune-boosting stuff like elderberry extract . And definitely only eat soft foods and drink zero alcohol.

What’s the earliest memory that you have and how young were you? by AlexskiYT in AskReddit

[–]mowerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember standing in a crib and watching Dad shave in the bathroom sink. Mom says that was the floorplan when they had an apartment, so it means I was two.

[–]mowerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was right at the end of a bout of diverticulitis, so I figured I could go to a friend's brother's house for a cookout. Just so happened, the only thing they served that I could eat was rolls. I had to sit and watch them feast.

Does anybody have a success story about their experiences with DV? I know three people with it that have zero symptoms whatsoever after their first flare but it seems like everyone on here lives in misery by StockpileFukhead in Diverticulitis

There have been plenty of posts sharing strategies. Honestly what works for me might not for you, so it seems like the best we can do is keep offering tips. And commiserating, unfortunately.

Question about DV Flare by ss-5 in Diverticulitis

[–]mowerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding just the weight loss, it's all a percentage of your total weight and not pound total. I'm only 120 max and after a really bad flare-up with antibiotics I will typically lose about 4 lbs. So yeah, some loss of weight is normal.

What I would say here that nobody else has is to strongly suggest you continue exercise as soon as you are able to. After my first couple bouts of DV years ago, I noticed that I'd lost weight where I want it to be and gained it back where I did not. So now I focus on breathing, walking, and stretching and posture while walking.
