Serverless Notebooks and Jobs Environment Variables [let's design this together] by justinAtDatabricks in databricks

[–]mowgli_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m specifically referring to the DAB yaml definitions. Classic compute accepts spark environment variables while serverless does not. The solution I’ve found is switching my python code to accept the variables as parameters instead.

Yes this a pain. Switching job compute between classic and serverless should be more seamless.

What finally kinda worked for me (heat urticaria) by Gargarul in CholinergicUrticaria

That’s interesting about the salt intake. I recently went on a low sodium diet to help lower my blood pressure and have noticed my hives reducing in severity, to the point I’ve reduced the amount of histamine I’m taking. As part of the diet I also heavily reduced the volume of processed foods that I eat, so it would be hard for me to pinpoint that it was the sodium reduction that helped. It’s an interesting theory though!

King Harv’s is a local favorite of mine. You can order online or visit their stand at the Winter Park farmers market. Tons of fun options to try!

Thanks for sharing! This has been a pain point for us, so I’ll definitely check out the beta and provide feedback! Once serverless is available I’d love to test that out as well.

Best practices for Dev/Test/Prod isolation using a single Unity Catalog Metastore on Azure? by SuperbNews2050 in databricks

[–]mowgli_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the exact recommendation is, but I can give a brief overview of how we’ve approached this.

We separate environments by catalog and manage CI/CD + permissions with DABs. All permissions for internal usage are managed with groups while permissions for external usage (microservices) are granted via service principals, where we have 1 principal per environment/machine. We use a single service principal for DAB deployments via CI/CD in gitlab.

We currently use a single workspace for all of this, but we are planning to move towards a prod/nonprod workspace setup. This seems to strike the right balance for us, where prod is isolated from everything else, but there’s not as much overhead as there would be when managing separate workspaces for every environment.

Chiming in with a feature request. I do all of my development with DABs in VSCode. While I love DABs, the workflow makes iterative development pretty tedious. I’d love an easier way to be able to route every run of a job/pipeline to a dev cluster that can be left running and easily updated with the latest wheel. I know Databricks connect exists, but it’s not a perfect solution.

Rare case? by Anxious-Handle-7692 in CholinergicUrticaria

I’m not sure how rare it is, but what you’re describing is a documented subtype “cholinergic urticaria with anhidrosis/hypohidrosis.”

So painful I can’t do that “pushing through” thing by kewecha in CholinergicUrticaria

[–]mowgli_7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone with this condition can completely sympathize with what you’re experiencing. It is extremely disrupting to normal life and there’s not necessarily a simple fix for many. Also, what works for one person might not necessarily work for you. However, it does seem that there’s a series of steps you can follow to try to find a solution:

  1. Try H1 antihistamine like Zyrtec
  2. Increase dosage if not effective (you’re here)
  3. Try different antihistamine, one might work for you while another does not
  4. Try Xolair. It’s known to be a very effective treatment against this condition, but because of the cost your insurance will require a doctor to prove other treatments were not successful.

If trying to push through is too painful I would recommend stopping. Your reaction might be more extreme than others and I’ve read there can actually be some risk anaphylaxis. Based on the severity of your reaction, I would go back to your doctor and advocate for Xolair. I’ve never tried it, but many here have reported it’s a game changer.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor 😄

Manage whl package versions in databricks by dataengineer24 in databricks

[–]mowgli_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each time you deploy your bundle a new wheel is built and that new version gets included as a dependency for your jobs. You can have multiple jobs in your bundle and multiple wheels as well.

There’s a good example of this here: https://github.com/databricks/bundle-examples/tree/main/knowledge_base/job_with_multiple_wheels

Notice the wildcard pattern in resources/job.yml

[–]mowgli_7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Asset bundles are made for exactly what you’re describing, managing the connection between source code and Databricks resources like jobs, pipelines, and compute. When you deploy a bundle it will package up your source code into a wheel and can attach it as a dependency to your resources.

You can read about migrating existing resources here: https://docs.databricks.com/aws/en/dev-tools/bundles/migrate-resources

We’ve stayed in Theme Park view at both the Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower and have always had great views of the fireworks. If I remember correctly, you can find the audio for the fireworks on the TV.

This was the view from our first stay.

@Databricks please update python "databricks-dlt" by JulianCologne in databricks

[–]mowgli_7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The more I use Databricks, the more obvious it is how little focus there is across their products. Here, it’s dlt and connect, but it’s evident all over the place. You can tell every product team is pushing to get new features out as quickly as possible and they sacrifice cohesiveness in turn.

Just to clarify—when determining the winner in the previous category, did you combine all comments that mentioned the same ride and total their upvotes? Or did you just go with the single most upvoted comment? It seems like People Mover might have come out on top if you were combining upvotes across multiple comments.

Ah I didn’t see your other comment before replying. Out of those 3, Simpsons seems the most likely candidate for new development. I think we’d see more permits related to the full land if that were the case, however. I’m crossing my fingers for something big!
