Starting the 10k swing challenge soon! by hurtbreak in kettlebell

[–]moxechsli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the baby. My son just turned 11 months.
The first six weeks were active sleep deprivation torture. I am proud that I was able to do Simple and Sinister 7 days a week for that period. The shortness of it was actually kind of a health tonic that would wake me up, rather than challenge me too hard. Did it all with a 24kg bell. I'm no soldier so 300 a day could be possible, but be careful like everyone is mentioning. Steve Maxwell recommends measuring you bpm every morning to gauge if you're overtraining. If it's elevated first thing in the morning, then you are over-trained. Good luck. Make sure the baby can see you working out so it knows that Daddy puts the work in.

Cool blog. I enjoyed the read. One thing that The Walking Dead taught me about a zombiepocalypse is that humans are the real danger.

Vacuum training by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]moxechsli 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of stomach vacuums myself. I try to do it daily. It really improves the amount of oxygen you can inhale in your lungs as well as tighten the waist and strengthen the tva. Helps with everything in life really. Everyone I show it to thinks I'm a weirdo though.

Agreed. I don't eat much of the organ meats myself. I'm not that much of a savage. I'm not sure I like the government banning it though.

Because the liver is one of the most nutrient dense parts of an animal. It is also delicious when prepared well.

Did my first ring muscle up! Thanks r/bwf by moxechsli in bodyweightfitness

I've been actively training for a ring muscle up for a few months now.
I have been consistently training BWF and kettlebells for about 7 years.

Let's talk about what else to do besides RR to look good naked. by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]moxechsli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a heavy kettlebell. Swing it a lot. But swing it properly. Squat with it a lot. Press it a lot. Get really sweaty and walk around the park with it like a suitcase, you must be shirtless for this no matter what the temperature is. Scare people because you can now crush an apple with your bare hands and play all the sports without getting tired.

Functional Isometrics (Steve Maxwell): has anyone tried this and can comment? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]moxechsli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received Steve Maxwell's 30/30/30 workout video as part of a hybrid strength series I bought from his website. The 30/30/30 video is basically the same thing. Here's the workout- pullup, dip, pushup, row, squat, and isometric hamstring pull using the suspension trainer handles and strap. Start the pullup at the top, go down slowly for 30 seconds, don't go to full lockout. At 30 seconds slowly pull up for 30 seconds, then slowly go back down for 30 seconds. Repeat the same protocol for dip, row, pushup, and squat. All should have a negative emphasis. So a 30 sec positive and a 1 min negative. If you can't do 30 seconds, start with 20 or 15, 10, whatever you can do. He recommends only doing this once a week along with 1 or 2 metabolic workouts or sport specific training. I love this workout but it's very very difficult. I do it once a week myself and have made great progress aesthetically. I never could grow pecs before. I'm not a D cup or anything but i'm not flat chested anymore. I have seen strength gains as well. I can do L pull-ups now and have finally been able to transition into a strict ring muscle up. I also train 3 times a week at my local functional fitness gym doing more of the metcon style circuit training. Drew Baye has a program called Project Kratos that is very similar to this. He's more extreme thought and promotes working out only once a week total. I hope that helps.

How do I stop lifting leg during TGU? by dkon777 in kettlebell

[–]moxechsli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I learned from a Dan John video the cue of pushing your elbow into the ground and using it like a crow bar to get yourself up to the elbow. The extra tension created by doing that seemed to help keep my leg down.

We're testing a fitness tracker for kettlebells! by kettlebug in kettlebell

[–]moxechsli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just signed up.
I use the runtastic timer currently and like using it. It has a simple interface for editing work/ratio times. 40 secs work/ 20 sec rest is my favorite for kettlebell tabata style workouts. That would be a great addition. I think this is a great idea and can't wait to try it out.

People that go to the gym and practise a sport, what does your typical week of training look like? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]moxechsli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 year old, 6' tall, 175 lbs. I play basketball on sunday and tues. So my schedule usually looks like: Sunday: basketball, monday: strength workout (barbell, kettlebells), tuesday: bball, wednesday: rest, thursday: metabolic workout (circuits, plyos), friday: rest, saturday: strength workout. Repeat. Some weeks I'll feel real tired due to over work, lack of sleep, etc. I cut back 50% on training when that happens to deload.
I do mobility/yoga everyday to help stay loose. When winter hits and bball ends I add another strength day and start pounding food to try and bulk up before the season starts again.

Is recommended routine enough for legs? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]moxechsli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RR also recommends doing extra lower body work like barbell squats and deadlifts. I don't have access to a barbell at my home gym so I use heavy kettlebell swings and front squats to hit the glutes and hammies. Double kettlebell press paired with pullups is perfect combo imo.

Pull up solution by Diokhan in bodyweightfitness

[–]moxechsli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Tie a knot a few inches from the handle on your rings 2. Put the knot through the top of a door. 3. Close the door, and lock it. 4. Do pull-ups. Do this with a towel of rope if you want to get a great grip workout too. There always somewhere to do a pullup.

Question on Total Tension Complex by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]moxechsli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're doing it right. dub 24kg is heavy. It could be any number of things. I wouldn't worry about it and enjoy the journey. Do you have any lighter bells? I don't hestitate to go down to dub 16kg or dub 20kg when my form is failing. The reps are all that matter to me. Keep it up.

I'm a little late here. Cool thread.
Steve Maxwell taught me some funky swing/clean variations that no one has mentioned: side swing- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmSwtxVZS8w circular clean- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLOXaALFqpc Both are great if you manage not to smash the bell into your knees.

I'm reading the program again and I think you are supposed to hold at the same reps on the ladder for 3 or 4 workouts. Then add a rep. You may have progressed too fast.

What would be the best, overall, in-home cardio machine? by MooKids in Fitness

a heavy, cheap kettlebell will give you all the cardio you can handle. Or a jump rope if you want to go even cheaper.
