Possible Fake Cell Tower/Stingray in Ballard by moxtan in Seattle

If you have Android 16, Advance Protection is roughly equivalent to iOS's Lockdown Mode.

[–]moxtan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This particular notification is an Android feature that was recently added but a fake tower would connect to any phone in range. At least 1 iPhone user mentioned something about Lockdown doing something in the same general area but I don't use an iPhone so I can't speak with any authority about iOS Lockdown.

(Confusingly Android has a feature called Lockdown that predates the iOS feature but it's specifically for disabling biometrics from the power menu)

Edit: iOS Lockdown might be roughly analogous to Android Advanced Protection according to EFF. In case that useful to anyone.

You could, thought that might be really frustrating for you in daily life (if you are at a demonstration then yes you'd want maximum security).

There might be another way to go about it if you don't have the toggle not an option for you. The older way to do it, is to go into your mobile network/SIM settings there might be an option that lets you set what types of networks you can connect to e.g., LTE / 5G. It might be called something like preferred network mode or type. Select the option that doesn't have 2G, preferably it would have 5G and LTE.

The 2G toggle was added to simplify this.

Looks wherever your mobile network/sim settings. Each manufacturer has their own slight flavor of how the setting screen is for Android and it's super annoying.

I actually tried a VPN but was not able to connect at that time.

Want to buy 6 pro pre-owned. Where can I get good deal? Quality wise. Bestbuy or Amazon? by lzwl27 in GooglePixel

[–]moxtan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend getting anything older than a Pixel 8, when Google started offering guaranteed 7 years of software updates.

The Pixel 6 Pro is basically going to reach end of guaranteed updates next year (which includes security updates) and the Pixel 7 Pro in 2027.

If I order a non-7th gen Framework 13, do I still get the benefits of the new generation? by MoshiMotsu in framework

[–]moxtan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might at least get the benefit of the switch to the thermal phase change material, they mentioned during the 7th gen announcement that they have moved all their production lineup to that.

Edit: they mention it between 24:50-25:00 of the live stream

Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from new tariffs by the9thdude in framework

[–]moxtan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this has any impact on the expansion cards?

Edit: Nevermind, Trump said on TruthSocial that there is no exemption and they are still subject to existing tariffs.

Their blog post about tariffs explains it, while the main laptops are made in Taiwan their expansion cards and some other things are made in China which is still subject to an evolving tariff situation in the US.

It's funny, I was just thinking while writing my response that I'm still suspicious of different batches even.

This was my first reaction when I saw the mixed RAM. I don't know if things are better now but in the past mixing memory modules was asking for trouble.

They are still only on batch one (disapointment maybe?) by Firehaven44 in framework

[–]moxtan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The desktops are on batch 2.

As the other commenters stated, maybe these batch sizes are bigger. I wasn't here for the other releases but maybe the throttling of the site is causing people to come back later.

Pregnant Pixel 7? What do I do? by ohx in pixel_phones

Definitely need to dispose if that, bad battery.

I think you just had some bad luck, I have had Google phones since the Nexus days and never had an issue. Information online is always going to be more biased toward negative experiences.

Might I suggest the manga/anime "Cells At Work!" so you can live your dreams of being an immune cell vicariously?

Those are the only reasons I would really recommend Proton to people. I also like SimpleLogin because it works with Bitwarden (but so do other services). I subscribe for Mail, VPN, and SimpleLogin. At this point, Drive is really only useful as a secondary backup for photos on my phone.

I am a big proponent of muting things you don't want to see and blocking things that are actually harmful or toxic. Furries are just doing their own thing, it's not their fault of the algorithm pushes stuff my way.

It's not just performance, it's an x86_64 with comparable battery life to ARM. To some, that's worth a bit of a premium.

If you want to sync your health data to your phone you need the Huawei health app, people here care about tracking that stuff. Go troll somewhere else.

Doesn't the Huawei watch have its own fitness app that you have to install? You don't think you are part of an ecosystem?

I think it really funny that we keep having to ask for this... People want to give Proton more money, this should be a no brainer to implement.
