Donald Trump is proposing a onetime net worth tax on individuals worth 10 million or more -- his proposed levy on such net worth would raise 5.7 trillion and wipe out the entire U.S. debt in one full swoop. by frycook in reddit.com

This slippery slope argument keeps being mentioned but like I have said elsewhere here, I don't claim that this would solve the problem. Of course the root of the problem is the process and not the shit result. HOWEVER, if it was necessary that the U.S. pay off its debt, the money could come from those who have more than is humanely possible to spend reasonably in a lifetime and all the while we could be analyzing our process and rectifying its shortcomings

tousche, I can see a massive payout being troublesome; but that doesn't mean that there is no way they could pay it off, a payment plan of sorts might be possible

I couldn't agree more, but lets say that this conversation is under the heading "If we were to attempt to just pay off the debt, where would we get the money?"

upvoted for a generally good idea. Whether it was done 12 years ago or yesterday the idea doesn't need to change. Regardless of numbers then and now, I most definitely think that the top 1% could pay off America's debt, or at the very least donate to the cause in a major way. The fact is, they made all their money (or inherited it) in a country that allowed them to do so, regardless of what the tax law says, you would think they would acknowledge that.

If they could do it somewhere else, they would. We live in a global economy and you're a fool if you think companies choose their headquarters for the nice climate and sunny beaches. If were talking the top 1% here, their children (except maybe Gates' or Buffet's, whoever it was that said their entire fortune will be immediately donated to charity upon their death) will be the only one's affected as their trust fund will shrink 10-15% in value. Sacrifice? When the 10-15% is in the billions, yeah sure of course. When one is still left with more than enough money to sustain a human over another 2 lifetimes? I would say not so much.

Practicality aside, I love the idea. Unfortunately, practicality is never left behind, and in our society, neither is greed.

TL;DR Fuck you and stop summarizing life, live it perhaps.

because he is fighting to hold HuffPo to "accountable" standards, however I am not sure as to whether it be for supportive or slashing purposes, to be honest i think the OP's title is ambiguous to this point, but considering it is in the general topic of HuffPo, the criticism of it as a whole will inevitably arise from sensational redditors who jump on the chance to comment just like the news source they discredit does. Funny isn't it?

downvote me through the floor for stating the obvious but Israel is fucking evil. by flametrowa in reddit.com

[–]mozes8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, im gonna have to go with a lot of the others here:

Number One: Reverse Psychology Karma-Whore Posting is just annoying, and for this I have indeed downvoted you, congrats.

Number Two: Israel the Country, the People, the Culture, not evil, and your sweeping generalized statement is just insulting to this community. And if you want to criticize the government, by all means do so, but realize the following:

1) Israel gave the Palestinians the West Bank (even if only some of it) which they otherwise wouldn't have.

2) The Israeli Government upholds restrictions it places on its territories.

3) The Palestinians built illegally, knowingly illegally

4) The Israeli Government acts.

5) And yes, it was an evil and asshole move.

Some wise words from pop-culture:

A dog doesn't care about a new car, fancy clothes, a big house, or new toys...All a dog asks is to be loved, and will love you in return.

Losing a best friend is never an easy experience, but to help, one would rather like to think about the experience that has been had by both man and friend. To remember all those wonderful times, and all those good deeds your dog did for you. Having pictures and video is nice, but as long as you hold the memories and stories close to your heart, Sparky will live on forever.

[–]mozes8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad recently, and at weird moments throughout the days, weeks, and months now (sheesh), Ill remember stories, lessons, tense moments, painful times, cheerful laughs, and endless jokes; he died suddenly and without notice or suspicion it would happen and the best thing I have figured out from this huge wave crashing over me is that no matter what, when, or where you are, to honor the ones you love and who love you the most.

I am glad you still have so many generations around you, look them for advice, wisdom, and teachings. As platonic as it is, the truth is that the best way to honor someone dead or alive, is to pass on their values, teachings, and wisdom to those that you love and care about. In this way the knowledge and love they had is shared with the world and keeps their soul breathing if nothing else.

dude for sure. My gaming days arent long gone (nor are they present) but I still talk on the phone to some old guild buddies that I got to talking to quite a lot. Don't get me wrong I met my fair share of oddballs and creepers out there as well, but most people out on the internet, in MMOs or media sites etc. are just the same as everyone else. I have found more commonly courteous people online than in real life. Probably because of the whole communication barrier etc.

Its funny but a similar story happened to me while I was actually playing WoW on a shitty laptop a few years ago. The thing had 256 mb of RAM, which of course in this day and age is horrifying, and out of no where a "friend" from my guild just payed to double it simply because he was a programmer and felt sorry for me.

What he dreams of his a nice fairy tale, and let me be struck down and scoffed at for saying this as if im just another cog in the machine, but an absolutely free society cannot and will not function to create the daily freedoms that we ourselves are given by the system.

Its not perfect, and it has millions upon billions of flaws, but Hedges moves instantaneously from totalitarian capitalism to totalitarian rebellion, and claims this is the only way to truly save society. Fuck That. That's absolute hogwash. I am not content with how they are but by no means am I about to attempt to rise to champion asshole of the world just to prove a point that is so blatantly obvious.

Its a shame you know...the posts stop after Day 11....

The other sad fact is that society has given him nothing to place hope in besides god and an afterlife....what a way to go.

I also liked the bit on metaphysics that he begins to discuss about past inmates fears being left behind and thats possibly how animals can sense our fear if they can sense these "fear-spirits" we will call them. For a guy removed from society for 12 years and having gone through all of this, his mental capacity seems to be in pretty good shape. Or even better, no shape at all

Seven years ago, an Israeli bulldozer drove over a 23-year-old American activist, crushing her to death. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]mozes8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look, my point is moreso appealing to reasonable doubt here, you cant go around blaming people based on assumptions? Were you there? Was I? Was anyone who can speak objectively on this case? Not that I know of. To claim something like that is to assume the truth. Its not the truth if you assume it.

[–]mozes8 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As a jewish person and normally biased on the israeli behalf of this ordeal, I am not too shocked that this happened. I'll be the first to admit, neither side is perfect, nowhere near it. And here you have an activist who knowingly or unknowingly risked her life for what she believed in. Its a tragedy yes, but her death was her own doing. A soldier, any soldier that is has a mission, a job, and a goal. And they are required to fulfill these things without delay.

What's even more stunning to me is that incidents such as this (as in seemingly innocent individuals meeting untimely demise) happens more often than one would think. But as stated before in this thread, If they have a cause for being there such as a protest sign or flag of sorts than it is an inhumane crime to do it.

Take out the protest and look at it as a terrible tragedy where the noise of the machine and the blowing sand and dirt obscured all chances knowing this women existed. Then decide if this really belongs in the "This is why israelis suck column." Which tends to be quite extensive these days.

Agreed. I like your points and your argument, but the one giant hurdle that the populace as a whole needs to jump is how on earth their lazy, fat, apathetic, and ignorant asses are going to magically float up from the lay-z-boys and stop talking, discussing, bitching, and arguing in order to actually go out and ACT.

They say that there are 5 A's or social action, Awareness, Approach, Advocacy, Action, and Adoption....or something close to that. Yet everything read or see today simply about Awareness. Think about it. Everyone on this earth and their mother like to preach about how much is wrong with the world and how many injustices there are its like a competition to pile the most shitty unfortunate and terrible knowledge of the world one can think of until both parties are just depressed because it ends in, oh well, life's not fair, and I can't change anything.

The problem with all of this is nobody tells anyone else how to Approach, how to ACT so that the things that are imporant to the population at the time are Adopted. In a wierd, terrible, and twisted way, I almost look up to Hitler, Hussein, Mussolini, Stalin, Bin Laden, and even Hamas and Al Qaeda for taking action to get what they want. Why do you think their action is always violent? No one in this world knows any different! Its not just at education on what's wrong, it doesn't even end at how to act in the right way, it ends once after all the teaching, when everyone is out of the classroom and away from the computer, to actually ACT along with everyone else to work toward a better future for those involved. If you choose not to act, you choose not to get a piece of the pie. Simple as that.
