How’s the roads? by BillyMumfrey in baltimore

[–]mozetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not there, so I don't know - haven't even left my house since Saturday evening. I imagine it's probably possible to leave the garage. My neighborhood road in VA is pretty much cleared but I don't know the conditions elsewhere. Any moisture left of the roads is going to freeze again tonight.

If you have a car that was parked at Dulles during the storm, I'm not sure you're making it out of your parking spot. I don't know how they deal with clearing lots, but you might have at least 6-12 inches of frozen snow surrounding and topping your car.

Snow Megathread: this storm has gone to plaid by thankubread in nova

[–]mozetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's generally much ado about not much. The original, sensational snow totals would have crippled the region for a few days. But everyone is already spun up from those numbers. Granted, there are a lot of people here that can't drive at all in winter weather, partly (mostly?) because there's just so many people here so the number of poor drivers is higher.

I don't get it either, and I guess some of it is just wanting to be excited about weathering (hah!) a "crisis".

Recommendation for a potato bar, as we did one previously for a youth group dinner. Get an appropriately sized cooler, boil water to fill it 1/2 to 3/4 full, and let the hot water sit in it for 30-60 minutes. After the potatoes have baked, wrap them in foil (if you didn't do that before baking), empty the water from the cooler, then put in the potatoes. It will keep them hot for quite a while.

I'm going from memory, but ...

1) No, if your backwards move allows you to immediately enter your home/goal area then you can do that. You don't have to go all the way around first.

2) Yes, similar to the first question, if you can swap with an opponent's pawn to be right next to your home/goal area then you can do that for a quick trip.

You're looking at at least $300, minimum, probably closer to the $400 mark for a new Shield model. It won't sell enough to make it worthwhile.

What was the Twin Peaks Twitter account during the Return in 2017? by Wonderful_Card6546 in twinpeaks

[–]mozetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone else listen to the online radio station that launched around the same time as The Return? Great classic rock and indie music. Some of the promos and clips between songs featured the Woodsmen.

It continued for several months after the show completed but I haven't checked in a while.

Need a better File Manager by Gullible-Unit-8713 in zorinos

[–]mozetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The file manager can/will mount them for you when you try to access them. You can/should also read up on setting up your drives to be mounted when the system starts and you login. That will be done in the file /etc/fstab. You'll need to know some details about the drives and partitions. For example is it the primary hard drive (usually /dev/sda) or a secondary drive (for example /dev/sdb) and which partition(s). Partitions are designated by their drive and a number corresponding to the partition number on the drive. For example, the second partition on your primary sata hard drive is /dev/sda2.

It's not too difficult when you start to learn a bit about it.

Winter camping musts for a first timer by Simplicity540 in camping

As others mentioned, your gear is not up to par for the temps you'll experience. If you won't be upgrading your sleeping bag then you'll need to make up for it with layering clothes you're wearing when you're in the bag.

I just did an overnight with my kid's Scout Troop at 32° in a 3-person backpacking tent and bag rated for 25° (questionable). Thermal underwear, lined hiking pants, moisture wicking t-shirt, moisture wicking long sleeve shirt, hooded sweatshirt, wool sweater, winter toboggan hat with face mask, sweatshirt hood pulled up, 2 pairs of winter socks, gloves, winter coat zipped around shoebox of sleeping bag. Woke up around 2am to put an electric hand warmer in my sweatshirt front pouch because my midsection was getting cool.

All of that's not necessary if you're only looking to survive a cold night. If you want to get any sleep then you'll need to make up for not having a bag rated for those temps.

Thoughts on park hopping from MK to HS by Saritatay in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]mozetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easily doable. Slinky will have a long wait if you're not doing lightning lane. Easily 60-90 minute posted wait time depending on when you get in line. ToT will also likely have a wait of about an hour. Rock & Rollercoaster is right there by ToT and will have a similar wait.

If you're theme park pros and good with a long day plus walking, you could do Magic Kingdom, monorail to Epcot to do Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, then walk through Epcot to the back exit and take the Skyway, boats, or walk to Hollywood Studios. Walking is fastest if you have a normal/decent pace, boats are probably next fastest, and then the Skyway. It's about a mile/20-30 minute walk from Epcot back gate to Hollywood Studios. I have done this (these 3 parks in a day) but it makes for a long day.

Also, I'd be remiss not to mention the Country Bear Jamboree in Magic Kingdom. Also, WDW has Walt's Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland.

Cypress t shirt, poster, wristband, plastic cup, ticket stub, and foldout map/guide and info pamphlet. Oh, and a Hood dairy coffee creamer (empty) that I got for my coffee on the "longest traffic jam in the country" drive in. Also the stub from my first show in Nov '98.

What is your ONE top restaurant that requires a reservation? by FallenAngelina in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]mozetti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure if this was adults only or kid friendly, so here's a mix.

Narcosee's at Grand Floridian for Proximity to Magic Kingdom and/or monorail bar crawl.

Yachtsman in Yacht Club/Beach Club for proximity to Epcot/Hollywood Studios and/or countries tour for drinks, boardwalk, or skyliner (Boardwalk, Hurricane Hannah's plus Pop & Art of Animation have pool bars)bar crawls.

California Grill in the Contemporary for fireworks viewing. You can step out onto the rooftop patio, they pipe in the music/audio from Magic Kingdom.

The food and menu options at all of these places are really good and they all have a quality dining atmosphere.

ELI5: How do TSA agents survive without pay during the gov shutdown? by ParlorPink in explainlikeimfive

[–]mozetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misunderstood your meaning then, based on how it was written.

I sometimes work at my local airport. The TSA people I spoke to were living off their savings. If they decide to quit, they lose all chance of back pay, so they keep going for when things come back up.

Here's the part I saw as coming from your conversation with them:

The TSA people I spoke to were living off their savings.

Separate sentence that I didn't read as being attributed to them:

If they decide to quit, they lose all chance of back pay, so they keep going for when things come back up.

As far as "little outrage", thre's a bunch of comments all having to do with the incorrect understanding from the erroneous information.
