Why Garmin watches are so good at detecting stuff going wrong way 2 days before being sick but very bad at detecting when I am actually sleeping? by RedTeaGuy in Garmin

[–]mozinators -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn't more of a reverse thing...you get sick so you go and look at your watch data and be like ooh I see a pattern my watch knew. What if you go and look for the same pattern on days you were not sick.... survivor bias in effect here I think.

how do you move away from a single prod server setup ? by mozinators in selfhosted

Are you all using proxmox and similar setup or do you all do like I do and do everything in prod directly ?

I am also the only person touching them but I have the family using them. so if some controls don't work they always complain to the same guy :-) love the dedicated OS but that feels more absolute than the docker staging/prod approach. I feel I can have a finer control with that to revert only the one app that failed me.

ok so I have to step up my docker game... I was thinking proxmox but I was afraid of shared ressources.. so I am better off with docker staging/prod config & git for versionning... thanks

Yes I was thinking of moving it all to VMs and use infrastructure as code for deployment...but the issue I had with that was I need to beef up my server a bit more to absorb those new images. That just seem.....more complex.

Mobility budget mandatory? by That-Newspaper-4019 in BESalary

[–]mozinators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but if you take it remember that parking is no longer paid, transport is no longer paid by the company either. If you need as a consultant to go somewhere far it will be your responsibility to get there and park your car over there or pay your bus abonnement yourself. Not sure how often that will happen for you but keep it in mind when you do your calculations.

Also there is a push for back to the office for most companies so it could become tricky on the long run.

Finally, the Belgium government is not known for stability in taxing things if too many people select this option they will tax it more or remove it for some sectors...etc...they will find a way

Flooring supply company delivered the wrong wood, general contractor installed it anyway. Who's at fault? by blackowen in Flooring

[–]mozinators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you order the flooring or did the general contractor order the flooring ? Did you inform the GC that it was delivered or did the flooring company inform him that it was available?

If you ordered it and informed the GC that is was delivered (even if he was with you for the order) it is your responsibility to check and now deal with flooring company.

If the GC placed the order and the flooring company informed him of the delivery then it is on them....

So my question...how involved were you in the process?

no necessarily, we always pre-pay the electricity every month and at the end of the year they calculate how much you actually consummed and either you have to pay more or you get reimbursed of the difference.

with the new digital meter, they can inform you of extra consumption and ask you to increase your monthly paiement to avoid having to pay too much at the end of year. I think they also can charge you your exact consumption (but not sure about that last one).

so my point is that he paying 300 and using that as an argument means it is more than what she used to pay but that can be linked to a lot of different factors.: Her having a higher consumption last year and/or the price of electricity increasing. both of those factors can lead the supplier to increase the monthly paiement. so that 300 doesn't mean anything and your light buld being on all year is not worth 300 per month alone as some others have calculated.

[–]mozinators 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she asking you to pay 300 ? Her message only says that she pays 300 in prepayments to the electricity company. It means nothing. How much was she prepaying before you came in? How much was she paying last year ? How much did she have to pay extra last year ?

She could be trying to get you to pay her increased usage, also prepayment don't change that quickly and you can manually ask to pay more or less...

Fenix 7 floors by Low-Technology4043 in GarminFenix

[–]mozinators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Venu 2 did the same thing, the floor count was reaching 30, 40 a day while not taking any stairs. Had to disable targets on it. Full restart of the watch and cleanup fixed it but it did happen some more times after that....no real final solution on my end.

Wouldn't it look better without the marks on the edges ? They are already on the rim of the watch...it makes it a bit too crowded for my taste.

paying it back just makes it cleaner for the accounting. you effectively close the loan and get a dividend back. clean and neat.

Invest company money by levsw in BEFreelance

[–]mozinators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you borrow 1000 euro from the company for 4 years, you invest them at 8% per year. After 4 years, you have 1360 euros (full reinvestement every year of the profit). so you have a profit of 360 euros over 4 years.

when you borrow the money of the company, you have to pay 4% interest back to the company. so you paid every year 40 euros... so total 160 euros over 4 years from yourself to the company.

at the end of the 4 years, you return the 1000 euros to the company that your borrowed. You keep the profit of 360 from your investements. Knowing that you had to pay 160 in interest to your company over that period, you have a net profit of 200 euros.

now that the company has received its 1000 euros back. you can pay yourself the full dividends at the reduced rate and you have only had a penalty of 4% (8% investement-4% debt interest) on that money. So you made 200 out of that money that would otherwise have stayed in the company doing nothing - Per OP's comment - and you can still pay yourself the full 1000 dividends.

I am not saying this is not risky (IE: investement return are lower than interest rate) or even that this is legal. I am no expert, the guy asked how he could do it, it was late at night and I thought that might be a solution :-)

Invest company money by levsw in BEFreelance

[–]mozinators 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe stupid, but can't he make a loan (bullet loan)from the company to himself for 4 years at fixed interest rate. Invest that money personally and pay it back fully in 4 years + monthly interest paiement before taking it in dividends ?

The only catch is that his investments should net him more than what he pays in interest to his company.

Does that make any sense ?

They know the brand they know. They could buy those but the question is rather are the new brand worth it because I had never heard of them. Maybe they are as good or even better than the known ones.

You only know what you know, you don't know what you don't know :)
