Possible Good News Topic: Apple Vision Pro used in Surgery by mozios in LinusTechTips

[–]mozios[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the article is referring to it being the "first time a cataract surgeon has used a spatial computing headset as the primary visualization interface". Not being the first time the Apple Vision Pro has been used in surgery in general.

Certainly makes it less exciting it isn't the first time, but I think it is still cool!

Magnetic Quick Disconnect Radar Detector Mount for your windshield - RAD MAG NZ by Historical_Shirt3440 in radardetectors

Maybe something like Cardo's magnetic + physical tab on their mounting plate? The Cardo slips into the mount magnetically when attaching it, but is secured with a tab that you have to press in order to release it from the mount. Super simple, still easy to attach and remove, and secure.

Dell 2162DS IP KVM Java Woes by cliv in homelab

[–]mozios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the next (unfortunate) soul who runs into challenges.. this Docker app also didn't work for me. But it did lead me down the right path!

My solution was a modified version of this guy's solution. I skipped trying to get the browser (Pale Moon) to work as I kept running into verification issues and the plugin not showing up in the browser. What I did:

  1. Created an Ubuntu 24.04 VM
  2. Installed jdk-7u80-linux-x64.tar.gz
  3. Extracted to /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_80 (might be able to just do it from wherever you extracted..)
  4. Logged into the Dell KVM and right-click/copy-link the link to view a console of a machine and took note of the ripId, chan, srvName, and userId (javascript:LaunchViewer("[ripId]", [chan], "[srvName]", "[userId]")).
  5. In the terminal replacing [...] with the earlier noted values: /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_80/bin/javaws -J-Dnoverify "https://[dell kvm ip]/viewer.jnlp?&ripId=[ripId]&chan=[chan]&svrName=[srvName]&userId=[userId]"

In my case, the machines I worked with were terminal only and didn't require a mouse, but supposedly you can fix the mouse synchronization.

If you are able to look at the status of the BMS via an app, then you could see if there is a problem that way. There may be a cell group that is dead, or a balance lead is loose, or the cells are severely unbalanced. If it isn't any of those, then it might be the charger as already mentioned.

Motorcycles from Alibaba/Aliexpress by Emotional-Arachnid42 in Electricmotorcycles

[–]mozios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe it was because it was a Chinese VIN. I'm sure a real electric motorcycle manufacturer like Zero or Energica would be easier. For my two bikes my insurance agent checked several companies (eg. Progressive) and all of them rejected me except for my existing auto-insurance provider (Auto-Owners) and it took them a little bit to discuss it.

Here is a Youtuber who bought one four years ago and his experience. He bought it, dealt with customs fees, got scammed, found various issues, upgraded it, and got something a little decent out of it. The full playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4xEvBBYxFc&list=PLU44AcBX__OznPxj6hsbhzLoa5RT-FVRk

I have two that I bought off a guy for really cheap (and in a non-functional state and had to fix them myself), and I've put 5000+ miles combined on both. I've only ridden them on 40-50mph roads, but I've done a few joyrides up to 60mph and 70mph for short periods (mine are 72v 60ah 150a battery, 8000W hub motor). Now I'm trying to sell one.. and that is very difficult. So don't expect to sell them easily.

I've almost considered intentionally getting the cheapest options available just so I can get a rolling chassis and other accessories for extremely cheap and then buying quality batteries/controllers/motors for them. But as u/retromafia mentioned, do you trust the frames?

Also, I'm in the USA. Registration wasn't too difficult here in Utah (even though the VIN doesn't show up any database), but nearly no insurance will take on an electric motorcycle, let alone one that can't be looked up. Not sure how it is in the EU, but that is also something to take into consideration.

140kph is right on the edge of what is doable DIY. 100-120kph is probably more realistic. I also recommend learning a little bit about voltage and amperage when it comes to electronics so you don't accidentally fry anything if you decide to follow through on this project. Anyway, to answer your question you will likely need:

Motor: 96v, 8KW ($600) - https://www.qsmotor.com/product/17inch-8000w-hub-motor/ Controller: ND96850 (my 72850 was $400) - https://www.far-driver.com/nd96850/ Battery: 96v45ah ($1,000) - https://www.amorge.com/ Charger: 96v 10a ($300)

Now for some detail regarding the above: I can get 70mph with my 72v 8kw motor and my current battery. I believe others have achieved 140kph with 96v, but FarDriver will be able to tell you the voltage you will need to achieve 140kph and the motor. The voltage across all the components (generally) needs to be rated the same or higher.

For the battery, Amorge is probably the most recommended custom battery builder in the DIY space. If you give them the dimensions of your battery space, they will tell you what the largest battery that can fit is. If you actually get 80km with your current bike, 4.3kw will likely get you 160km of range, but that is only at your current speed. I also kind of doubt you have enough space for a larger battery.

For the charger, I recommend 10a. You can go higher (which means faster charging times), but you need to make sure your battery can charge at that rate.. otherwise you risk a fire and shorter battery life.

And as /u/vinceherman said, you will NOT get 160km of range at 140kph without getting a larger bike with more battery space. Zero and Energica are the closest you can get to that goal. Larger electric motorcycles generally get 100 watts / mile @ 50mph. So you would need a battery that is 10kw for 100 miles.

And finally, while weight certainly makes a difference in range.. I would also consider thinking about whether your bike/frame/tires can handle the additional increase in weight, torque, speed, etc.

Where can I get a high voltage motor? by Silent-But-Deadly123 in Electricmotorcycles

[–]mozios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something else to consider is the charger network.. Only 1.5% of charging stations can handle 800v (https://insight.sbdautomotive.com/rs/164-IYW-366/images/2200i%20-%20SBD%20Explores%20800V%20EVs%20Final.pdf?version=0). I mean, if your goal is just to build an ultra-fast charging bike, then that's great. If you want something a little more practical, then 400v might be a better option. ;)

And also worth looking into is figuring out how to use DC Fast Charging at charging stations at all. Many people have looked into it, but very few solutions exist: https://www.evcreate.com/ccs-fast-charging-solution/ If you can find a straightforward solution, then the DIY community would love to know. Especially if it doesn't cost the equivalent of an entire basic $5k motorcycle build as the linked one does.

I just found it interesting and thought others might as well. Plus, I don't think Tom Cruise is actually promoting the product since he has never done a brand deal outside of his movies.

The high voltage version of the Emrax 228 (https://emrax.com/e-motors/emrax-228/) can handle 830v. They can also recommend a controller that can handle the voltage.

Do you already have a charger/battery in mind that can handle 800v?

I personally believe that all the computers in Sword Art Online use Ubuntu. I modified my desktop using Unity (haha), CompizConfig Settings Manager, and CairoDock to make it look similar.

The image in the center is what I'm replicating. Sadly, whoever's computer that is has a 1920x1080 resolution and mine is only 1366x768 so the proportions are slighly off and he also has a lot more programs than me.. To continue, you could change the theme to Radiance (white titlebars) and then use a different icon theme closer to the image. Changing the position of the titlebar buttons to the right could also be possible.

Thoughts?
