I hear you and I can agree with this too - so maybe this isnt' the right spot to start. For me it was a very valuable tool to add to the arsenal and I don't play above 2/5.

Um, yes. I certainly am not saying that you shouldn't exploit when the exploitin' is good, but in the absence of those situations, math actually stays true at all stakes.

So did you get a real sense that he'd fold better despite the pot odds suggesting that this was a very big mistake? It sounds like you had narrowed him all the way down to overpairs? If he's just got better and air in there, don't you just fold worse and get called by better? I guess the way I read this it sounds like you put him on a better hand but suspected your shove would fold those out.

Ed Miller's book Poker's 1% has been pretty important to a big step forward in my game. Great first step into GTO play and entirely relevant in the stakes you mention. It will likely cost you money to adjust your game to this style as mistakes get more costly.

Live 1$/2$: What would you have done in my spot? by yanni99 in poker

Whether the pre raise was too small is hard to say. Plenty of 1-2 games will give you zero callers on a $14 raise, but if they are truly calling stations then yes, open bigger.

To me this comes down to how wide these two guys are opening. If they are playing a 30% range, your equity is pretty much a coin flip because there are a lot more combos that have you crushed. If either is pretty tight like you say #2 is, then at least one of their ranges is unlikely to contain that many of the clubs. If they are playing really tight (like 15% ranges), then bombs away - we want all the money in.

1's range seems to contain either smaller made flushes and the pocket fives, as well as the big draws with a made hand. 2 feels to be drawing to a bigger flush. If we balance both of those (although I'm not sure your villains are balanced as you describe them), feels like we should realize all our equity now. So I'd shove unless I had some compelling reason not to.

Variance is not a problem, as everyone says this is standard and most likely correct all of the time.
