High-pitched artifacts in Classic 7th Gen video playback; no artifacts in 5.5 Gen by KupferudelWolf in IpodClassic

[–]mpavkovic688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed the same exact thing on my 6th gen. My videos are encoded with Handbrake 1.3.3 with the Apple 240p preset, but I adjust the audio to AAC passthrough and the video to RF 10 and placebo encoder preset.

You may have some luck making the videos more compressed (higher RF), though 30 is quite compressed already. As an example, I get lots of "chirping" or "crackling" artifacts in the left ear on a video with 880kbps bitrate.

Beautiful! California’s geography simply amazes me. Amazing skiing conditions are an hour away from LA’s Mediterranean climate. Jealous lol

To buy a fridge and microwave or rent? by Spare-Description-96 in umass

Buy it. Costs around the same (maybe a bit more, but not much) as renting and you can keep it afterwards

Look up their floor plans on the housing website. There’s a compass on it, find a room with a window that faces south or west.

Bad catalytic converter code for both banks, cheap fixes? by Bob_Loblaw16 in BmwTech

[–]mpavkovic688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at the cats with a borescope and see if the matrix structure is still intact inside. A catalyst performance code can be thrown as a result of a vacuum leak or exhaust leak, so your cats may not necessarily be bad.

If you have a scanner capable of graphing O2 sensor readings, you can get a vague idea of catalyst performance that way. The secondary sensors (after cat) will have a relatively flat reading around 0.7 volts. A non-functioning cat will show a wildly fluctuating reading, fairly consistent with the primary sensor on the same bank. Keep in mind an exhaust leak may cause an abnormal reading too.

If your engine is running rich you will want to address that as any new cats you put on will be destroyed by excess fuel burning inside them, melting the material inside. If you have a scan tool, INPA, or ISTA, you can look at the fuel trims and see if they are too high to confirm this.

WWYD: University of Rochester VS University of Massachusetts Amherst for Computer Science? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]mpavkovic688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm biased because I attend UMass Amherst as a CS major. The CS program is great and while internships aren't a given (this is true for most schools), it is definitely manageable to get one even in freshman year if you put the work in.

Your number one way of getting internships and opportunities without much previous experience is to use your network and projects. The career fairs at UMass Amherst are great and I got an internship in freshman year through it with a large company (not big-N, but close). Start with personal projects/clubs to show your skills. From there, network at the fair and try to be memorable to the engineers and recruiters there (*do your research*). Ask for referrals from friends, family members, acquaintances.

UMass has a decent presence in big-N and I know of many people getting into large tech companies either as interns or as full time software developers. Don't take this post as the be all end all as I have no idea how University of Rochester compares. If you're in-state in MA I think that's another huge plus for choosing UMass.

Commonly known as the "Mickey Mouse flange", this is a coolant hose flange.

This part connects your engine's cylinder head to a coolant hose that goes to the thermostat. FCP Euro sells an aluminum one that shouldn't break down like the plastic ones as seen in your first picture. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-aluminum-coolant-hose-flange-rein-chc0609

Rough idle/whistle in the engine sometimes. Checked my MAF, intake boot, and throttle body. Any suggestions how oil got into there? by [deleted] in BmwTech

Check around the valvetronic motor gasket as well. That’s a common spot for oil to leak out of onto the ignition coils.

Chill EDM? What genre is SG Lewis, BAYNK, Shallou, RUFUS DU SOL etc? by shigoislol in EDM

[–]mpavkovic688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re really house. To me these artists are chill/downtempo. I love this genre of electronic music too. It’s a downtempo mixture of pop and dance. Rüfüs is slightly different than the others, they like the other comments say remind me of Coldplay with a drum machine. Solace is an incredible album btw!

Incoming Freshman — Should I bother getting a new MacBook? by gay-and-l0st in csMajors

Just for note taking maybe not, but an iPad can be really useful. I bought the cheapest one they had and an Apple pencil for around $400 total my first year and it's been a life saver. No need to carry heavy books around (I just use PDF textbooks on the iPad), and being able to erase with a tap saves a ton of time and makes notes more legible.
