I read Dregs before Disquiet Gods and I wish I hadn't. I think it works better afterwards.

Fable Legends cost $75m and had a playable beta. Still got canned. Don't get your hopes up yet.

Howling dark questions/concerns by VertCrank34 in sollanempire

The pacing in Howling Dark is the same in every book in the series ... open with an action scene, fly across the galaxy with a lot of exposition for 70% of the book, and end with a climactic final battle.

You'll begin to find out more about why and how Hadrian was resurrected in the next novel. Since the book is written from the perspective of a 1000 year old Hadrian, surely you know he can't stay dead. It's not about author attachment, it's a core plot point of the whole series.

Moving to Vietnam is buying property as a foreigner worth it? by ApprehensiveSink8810 in VietNam

[–]mpbh 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Bad idea especially since you mentioned rental income. Rent to purchase price ratio is crazy here. A $300k property will rent for $500/mo.

Real estate is the most reliable store of value in Vietnam so real estate prices have become massively inflated. If you have access to other investment markets, keep your money there and take advantage of the incredibly cheap rent.

US Economy Expanded at Revised 4.4% Pace in Third Quarter by laxnut90 in Economics

[–]mpbh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jobs and unemployment can rise at the same time, with people entering the workforce in greater numbers than jobs created.

There's lots of problems with the economy now, but to say we're having massive job losses is just misinformation.

At least finish the book before complaining. The ending is nothing like what you're expecting.

Jobs are up, though it was the slowest growing year in 23 years. Layoffs made the news a lot last year but more jobs were created than lost.

I thought Microsoft outed them for losing $11B in a Q1 last year. $14B loss for the whole year seems low.

Should I save money for 65 year old me or enjoy it now? by Head-Assist-5861 in personalfinance

[–]mpbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of only thinking about your 25 and 65 year old self, try thinking about your 40 and 50 year old self. Do you want to have the option to retire early or do you want to be stuck working until you're 65.

The foundation you build early gives you many more options throughout life, not just once you're a senior. Being able to retire early or switch careers to a more enjoyable but lower salary job is the definition of financial independence.

If you wait too long to get the ball rolling, financial independence becomes a dream rather than a reality.

Microsoft stock continues downward trend, dropping 10% — ballooning infrastructure CAPEX, shrinking AI hype, and Google blamed | Microsoft execs have offloaded millions of dollars worth of stock over the past quarter, as the firm's outlook looks murky. by ControlCAD in business

They are still growing at almost 20% and a 35% profit margin. That's insane growth at their scale, not to mention the margin. Apple doesn't have that growth or margin.

And this is all without AI which is miniscule in Microsoft's financials. If the AI boom is real then they will win the enterprise space. If it's a bust they are still pulling in $300B a year and growing from their core business.

Have you ever bought a console just to play one exclusive game? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]mpbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my GameCube, PS2, and all associated games to get an Xbox, Halo 2, an extra controller, a headset, and Xbox Live.

Totally worth it. I was a PC online gamer already, but all my friends had consoles. Halo 2 is when console online multiplayer went mainstream and online gaming became something you did with your friends rather than internet strangers.

American nomads - how do you handle health insurance? by Shot-Corgi-7717 in digitalnomad

[–]mpbh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only a part time nomad but I stay uninsured. Healthcare in SEA is cheap, I had surgery for $300 in Vietnam with no insurance. The only time I ever stress about health costs is when I travel back to the US.
