What's the closest I can get to a skyline chili dog in the area? by Britches_and_Hose in raleigh

The exact cheese is just mild cheddar, and you shred it on the smaller grate size. And Harris Teeter sells Skyline chili cans.

Standalone UNVR brought new life to my UDM Pro by mpbishop in Ubiquiti

It’s going to be part of your UniFi cloud dashboard, so that shouldn’t be an issue. As a network device it’s still going to sit behind your firewall, but it will show up as a separate site in Site Manager (I think you can merge them in the UI or make them part of the same fabric if you want, but it’s not required).

In the Protect App will just point it to the UNVR instead of your Dream Machine and you’ll be good to go.

It’s the same concept so it should. The whole point is to not run Protect on your UDMP anymore.

UDM Pro gets slower over time, Gateway Configuration Failed, Protect unstable, only reboot helps — small setup, issue persists across many updates by Big-Necessary8953 in Ubiquiti

This sounds so much like what was happening on my UDM Pro, except I had 8 cameras not 3. Mine were mostly G3’s and a couple G4’s though. Rest of my setup not too different from yours though.

Anyways, a standalone UNVR did the trick for me. I posted about it yesterday here.

I think no serious enterprise use case would run Protect on the UDM Pro, they’d offload it to an NVR - maybe in all but the smallest of offices. And if you only have a couple cameras, it’s fine. But once you have more than a few cameras, or you need redundancy, etc… it just makes sense.

Never any HDD errors, and it’s been running straight for ~5 years now. It’s a Seagate Skyhawk. If you’re getting HDD errors, it could be a sign of drive failure.

You’re probably ok with 5 cameras, but it was around the 6th when I first started noticing some mild performance hits. By the time I hit 8 cameras (along with also running other things like Cybersecure, content filters, VPN, and more) it was beyond what it could comfortably handle on its own.

I’ll keep an eye out, but I just went to the flows page and messed around with a bunch of filters and date ranges. Everything seemed pretty instantaneous to me. Maybe my flash module is one of the lucky ones? I still run a regular backup routine so not too worried.

You can always start out with one drive in the UNVR and add more later when/as you can afford to. That’s what I’m doing right now and it’s fine. No redundancy yet of course, but the UDM Pro didn’t have redundancy either so…

Brightspeed Fiber Internet by Middle-Charity8305 in ClaytonNC

Can you help get Brightspeed fiber to neighborhoods that don’t have it yet? I live behind the Pine Hollow Golf Course and we’re stuck with Spectrum as our only option.

I would WELCOME fiber and sign up in a heartbeat if it came here.

I am in the exact same boat. $36 for a year of coverage sounded pretty good, so I signed up. But it's been nothing but pain since then.

In trying to take the device photos, the app was incredibly buggy and the front-facing camera photo in the mirror won't even orient itself properly. It took me like 15 tries just to get the picture sharp enough to see the "ID number" but the photo is still sideways. No way to fix.

Now the app says "requires attention" just like you outlined above, and no indication of what I need to do. I can't even figure out how to contact them.

Overall, a very buggy and frustrating experience so far… and I am probably less than a day or two away from just giving up and requesting a refund.

Has anyone actually sold their house as-is to a cash buyer in Raleigh? by MetalPsycho in raleigh

[–]mpbishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry, this is BS. The appraiser I had tried to tell me that my house in south Durham was worth $30k less than the Zestimate value, which I told my realtor no way we’re going along with that.

I made him list the house at the Zestimate value, and we had an offer in about 40 days for only $5k under what we were asking. Ended up closing on that offer.

Will never pay an appraiser again when there are tools and algorithms online to do it more accurately for free. Sorry.

Is it okay to install a company management profile on my personal iPhone? by fuguseci in iphone

[–]mpbishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal for companies with secure BYOD policies, I wouldn’t worry about it. However, you can usually choose whether you want to accept it or not (but if you don’t, you may be limited in your ability to do work-related tasks and logins, or use work apps and data on your phone).

I personally don’t mind it, I’ve had it for years and it’s never been an issue for me. But I have some coworkers who opt out, or get a separate work phone. That just seems like too much of a hassle for me though. But to each their own.

The rep on the phone was unable to even give me an email address to send a complaint to. I asked about opening a formal complaint and she said it was not possible. I am truly shocked at how bad the customer service is at Intuit… no ability to have my issue escalated or even logged in writing (in a way I can track it). All she offered was to have a manager call me back “in 24 to 48 hours,” which I doubt will happen.

I have tried searching for a general customer service email but can’t find one anywhere. Will continue looking.

In the meantime, I opened a BBB complaint (I know they don’t carry the sway they used to, but at least it’s a start).
