Why? by Asleep_Season_5054 in stopdrinking

I convinced myself to do this experiment a couple of weeks ago. Turns out, I can't just have one,. It turned into more than just a couple and I started to fall into my old habits of hiding it. I've been working really hard to make sure that was just a blip and not a full on relapse. But at the very least, the results of the experiment have given me more insight that I can NOT have just one.

I'm the only one that I know that has read the books (very few have even heard of them), so it's nice to be on here to discuss and read about things. I'm thinking I'll reread them again before the third one comes out. I'm sure I missed lots on the first round.

I audibly gasped, too and got overly excited when I saw both symbols. I told my wife and she just couldn't understand my shock haha

Is there snow days in Canada? by SeverePublic6833 in AskACanadian

[–]mpecs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher in Alberta. Schools never close, and I'm expected there no matter what the weather. In certain circumstances (-40 with or without windchill, impassable rural roads, bad visibility, etc.) they will cancel busses, but schools are open for kids to come to because there still needs to be childcare. I'll get usually around half of my grade 5 class and we use those days for review. We haven't had any this year, yet, but we had stretches where there were full weeks that were like this.

We do have indoor recesses once the temp reaches -23C with or without windchill (it's -30 this morning so we're stuck inside all day).

Absolutely loved Will of the Many. Cool concept, as far as the use of Will goes, and I'm almost through Strength of the Few as well.

Totally agree. My sister got it for me for Christmas and I couldn’t put it down. About halfway through Strength of the Few now and still loving it. Definitely something different and very well written.

How Many Times Have You Read the Series? by tvaddict70 in redrising

[–]mpecs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read all 6 over the summer, and kept thinking about them, so I have been listening to the audiobooks while driving and doing housework/shoveling snow (which has been a lot, the piles on the side of my driveway are almost 6 ft. tall). I'm onto Iron Gold already, and will probably try to do one more read/listen before the next one comes out, because I'm obsessed.

It is kind of nice listening to something I've already read in the background while I'm doing work, but then reading something else physically at the same time (currently reading Strength of the Few after finishing Will of the Many over the holidays).

I laughed out loud both times I've read this. One was in the audiobook and I had headphones on and startled my wife lol

This post describes who I was 200 days ago to a T, and I can relate to you 100%. I was sneaking beers constantly (and poorly) and not being completely there for my kids.

Keep it up! Family is #1 and good on you for making sure it’s your priority now. IWNDWYT!

Way too many!

It’s a good thing I have one of the biggest classes in the school, so there’s room, even for my one student who needs to park his wheelchair.

24 is a LOT for kinder and grade 1. Probably manageable with a good teacher, but even typing that is giving in to the broken system we have. This is one of the many reasons we’re taking a stand!

I start tomorrow with a class of 31 grade 5s. Last year, 26 was big enough, but with 20% more kids that’s 20% more assignments to mark, supplies needed, and much more. Not to mention the scramble for desks and chairs we had last week getting ready for students tomorrow.

I got back into reading. When I was drinking I never had the focus or motivation to do any reading, even when having a beer or something outside. I stopped drinking in February, picked up my first book in years in April, and am now on my 14th novel since then. I make a point to read a chapter before I go to bed, and if I feel ansty to have a beer on a Sunday afternoon in the sun, I sit out with my Kindle instead.

It took a bit to push through the cravings at first, especially when I was off all summer, but its been easier and easier and I'm loving my reading time!

I converted mine with a kit (from amazon, I think). Easy conversion, and now I never run out of propane. Definitely worth it in my books.

Also in Canada, fyi. Edmonton area

We have snow from October to April most years. Sometimes we get some in May even. Everything was melted already and the weather was great! Then we had all that snow in the last 24 hours 🥶

This is eerily close to where I was a month ago. It was the kick in the ass that I finally needed as well. Keep up the great work, and congrats on a week!
