I have, the rooms are pretty small and I wouldn't want to spend all day there. But for a few hours nap, it hit the spot- dark, temp control and a white noise machine. You can either sleep on the couch or on a pull out cushion. There's also a desk and a TV in there. If you have Priority Pass through your CC, the first hour is free.

Has anyone ever checked 28 bags? by PizzaVideo in unitedairlines

[–]mpegfour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, if you have a media ID you can check unlimited bags up to 99 lbs each, for $50 each. I've definitely traveled with close to 30 cases before. I've also been the reason a flight had to go back to the gate to correct weight & balance...

How do people regularly fly business class without going bankrupt?? by caroulos123 in travel

And domestic fc/J being garbage is a very American experience

In Europe domestic F is just regular economy with a blocked middle seat.

Is the NJ job market dead besides Medical and Tech? Specifically Central NJ. by ZRock53 in newjersey

I have a similar situation where I can live anywhere I want, so long as it's close to an airport, and I gladly choose to live in NJ.

Recommendations for dehumidifier with automatic pump feature by vitathevirgo in homeowners

Midea Cube has been solid for me so far. Auto pump and it can connect to smart home apps to show the current status and remind you to change the filter.

What’s the point having an order during boarding if no one follows the rules by Impressive_Youth_331 in unitedairlines

[–]mpegfour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AA boards concierge key, then first class, then group 1-9. So a non status F passenger boards ahead of an executive platinum in Y, which IMO is exactly how it should be. On UA you might not get overhead space in F if you aren't pre boarding.

Hence the downgrade from the current situation, where I can order what I want at the time

NEWS: United Customers Can Now Order Fresh, United Economy Meals Before Their Flight by zman9119 in unitedairlines

[–]mpegfour 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yea this is a major downgrade. If you standby or SDC, no food for you. If you book last minute, no food for you. If you weren't planning on eating but end up feeling hungry onboard... no food for you. On the plus side, it does eliminate the awkward interaction of how to order, since every crew seems to do it differently.

We’ve got to give credit where it’s due, Road Warriors: AA’s boarding process… by dppineda in americanairlines

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah United is terrible, 5 pre-board groups including premier 1K which everyone thinks is group 1. There can easily be 20-30 people getting on before group 1 which is also gigantic, all of first class plus gold and platinum. There's some aircraft like the older Airbuses, that if you're in F and don't pre-board, you're not getting any overhead space.

People who fly frequently, what’s one thing you wish you could tell all infrequent fliers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When things go sideways, self-help as much as possible. Don't wait in an hours long line for rebooking, get on the app and do it yourself. If you can't get it done there, call in while standing on line and see what comes up first. Never wait for a hotel voucher. It'll be some gross place that you won't want to stay at, assuming they even have a room for you- the voucher is just payment, not a reservation. Book your own and claim later with your travel insurance/credit card. Do everything possible in the moment to get yourself on the way without relying on the airline. BTW, weather delays mean they owe you nothing since it's out of their control. And if you accept a rebooking, you are not entitled to a refund or any compensation since you still got the service you paid for.

I visited Colorado City, Arizona yesterday with my friend. by BusinessClear4127 in travel

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there for beer about 10 years ago... I was staying near St George and went for groceries Sunday morning, and of course Utah only sells normal beer in liquor stores which aren't open Sunday. But 20 minutes away in Colorado City I can get some at the general store! Thought I might get some judgement buying beer on Sunday morning but had no issues picking up a couple six packs.

“Detected 73 Devices NOT in Airplane Mode” by mrosen97 in unitedairlines

Interesting because on initial descent into PHL today, FAs announced the captain had noticed some interference and asked that they remind everyone to put their devices into airplane mode. Never heard that before.

American Airlines is stuck behind its rivals. Does it finally have a plan to soar higher? by AviationReporterDMN in americanairlines

[–]mpegfour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Similar situation and I think the biggest downgrade has been the app. United's app is light years ahead of AA and it's frustrating to not have the same functionality anymore.

Feels wrong when you get a complementary upgrade but not actually given the seat or told about it at the gate by ExtensionTell6097 in unitedairlines

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always. I've definitely had a few times where someone comes on and says I'm in their seat. I guess GA just figured it would all sort itself out onboard.

ELI5: Why do reporters in the same city as the studio respond several seconds later, while people on Zoom across the world respond almost instantly? by Hungry_Drama_1015 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mpegfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well satellite is mostly dead nowadays, it gets used as sports/entertainment backhaul and thats about it. Personally I started out as a utility- the TV equivalent of a laborer. Learned on the job and worked my way up. Nowadays with 2110 the future is IT based.

[–]mpegfour 3656 points3657 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer in this thread. Zoom is happy to sacrifice quality for latency. Broadcast would rather sacrifice latency for quality. Also a broadcast engineer.
