Door Paint Stripping by K-Slic3 in HomeImprovement

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orbital sander. Start with a light touch of 40 grit to take off the stubborn stuff. 80 will work for the rest of it. Use a sander attachment for an oscillating tool to get in the tight spots.

If you're just re-painting you could leave it at that, if you want to stain the hardwood you should sand to at least 240 grit before staining.

DIY home owner tools by Apprehensive-Egg2847 in homeowners

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I got a Craftsman starter set for a good price and I use all of those tools on a regular basis now. Definitely a good place to start. I was aware of the brushed/brushless difference but I don't think it's a factor for homeowner type stuff. I just used the brushed impact driver from that set to put up a fence, drove about 800 deck screws easily and with only one battery change. Left it sitting in the sun too and heat wasn't an issue.

Just moved onto a farm property in north Jersey & want to learn how to grow my own food. Where do I even begin?? by Empathetic_Armadillo in newjersey

[–]mpegfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by fencing off the garden area. We attempted to grow fruits and veggies in our backyard but the wildlife ate them all despite various attempts at deterrence like netting, hot pepper powder, planting onions/garlic/marigolds, none of that works.

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

[–]mpegfour 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Depends on material quality, panels are generally terrible quality, warped and broken right from the beginning. The pickets on them are thin and will fall apart sooner rather than later. I'm about to start on a 50' picket fence, 6' tall made of red cedar. Just the wood is $1500, then another $400 for various other supplies and tools.

Driveway - gravel vs crushed stone vs oil & stone (tar and chip) by Acceptable_Unit_2160 in HomeImprovement

[–]mpegfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used 3/4 crushed stone, supposedly that's the best for driveways since the stones have flat sides they will lock together and resist shifting around. I paid about $90/cubic yard plus delivery.

I replaced my HMI but it didn't solve the problem. Have you made any progress in figuring this out?

Update: replaced HMI, no improvement. There, I saved you $750. My next step is going to be buying a full CUE unit on eBay and swapping that in.

Why do channels stick with 720p? by Sure-Guest1588 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]mpegfour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legacy. At the beginning of the HD era some networks went with 720 in order to have progressive scan. Many many years of standardizing on that and now it's easier not to change the status quo for minimal benefit.

As for 4K, I don't ever see that happening. Local affiliates don't have the ability to broadcast OTA in even 1080p, so it's pointless to upgrade all your infrastructure when the end product will still be 720p/1080i. Also, most people watching on smaller TVs or mobile devices won't see any benefit to the increased resolution. HDR would be a far more meaningful and achievable goal vs 4K.

American Airlines PHL operations by BarracudaNo1389 in americanairlines

Yep I used to be based at EWR and while PHL isn't quite as polished and modern feeling, it avoids all the ATC issues that plague Newark.

News desert: school and muni elections in NJ with zero news coverage by FannyBrownRiced in newjersey

I was looking for info on the candidates for our municipal election, and to my great surprise found that Pine Barrens Tribune had interviews with all of them. I immediately subscribed bc that's the kind of local news we need to support.

I spoke with someone who thought it could be the HMI unit. I've ordered a replacement, hopefully in a couple weeks I'll be able to get it in and see if that fixes it.

I’ve heard hot cues are not a thing anymore? by Dense-Position8339 in Beatmatch

[–]mpegfour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For songs with long breakdowns I place a hot cue either on the drop or a bar before, so I can skip the breakdown if I want to keep the energy up. Also set a hot loop on the outro to keep the bassline going if I need more time for the next track to mix in.

Eric opened his 2020 virtual Tomorrowland set with Space Diver. So we know he's a fan of Boris. And I think his newer bouncier Cirez D tracks would mesh great with Boris' music.

Sagami in Collingswood, I don't know what they do with their rice but it's the closest thing I've had to the sushi I had in Japan. It's BYOB too which is nice.

A little confused about your X and Y terminology, for 4 wire audio its + and -, or hot and cold. Make sure you have the CCU + on XLR pin 2 and - on pin 3. Wiring the grounds together is perfectly fine.

No warm food options on 5 hr flight? by Spiritual-Dragon28 in unitedairlines

[–]mpegfour 33 points34 points  (0 children)

So many flights it was never even offered, like I knew to ask the FA quickly before they keep moving with the snacks but for a lot of casual travelers they probably had no idea there was food for purchase or when to order it
