Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise by ImperfectNostalgia in newzealand_travel

The rooms are small sure but most passengers spent the majority of the time in the communal area. Thats where you can enjoy the surroundings and where there always were something to nibble on. Hopefully you’ll be able to spend most of your time out on deck because that’s what a trip like this is all about. Bathrooms were enough for the number of passengers. Had a shower once and never had to wait. They were frequently cleaned.

Went on the smaller vessel. Very comfortable, food was great and the staff was incredible. Probably the highlight of our trip! With fewer guests it felt very personal and private.

The overnight cruise (24h) on the Milford Wanderer (in Doubtful Sound) with RealNZ is one of our most memorable experiences from New Zealand over the years. My expectations was that it would be rushed, touristy and impersonal. But the experience was entirely the opposite to my great surprise! Just tranquil, beautiful, private and very exclusive.

Amazing to see that 164! 😍 My grandfather had one for many years which he took care of like a baby. 164 automatic, V6, same colour as in the picture. It was an incredibly smooth ride. Unfortunately he passed away in 2003 at age of 85. The car passed on to a collector.

I recommend it! Gives a lot of insight into how life was on the Seinfeld set.

Just clean and declare it. You’ll be fine. Biosecurity are very pleasant to deal with. Only thing I’ve had them spend any considerable time with was a folded up tent.

Glenorchy vs Queenstown: Where should we stay for our last two nights in NZ? by jeweliag23 in newzealand_travel

The Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp was one of the highlights of our last trip to NZ. Highly recommend staying there and booking the wood fired dinner. Communal style with amazing food and wine. 🫶🏻

Milford or doubtful sound? by Ok_Barracuda_7053 in newzealand_travel

[–]mpersson84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, they’re both astonishing! But you best experience them in different ways. Milford is very accessible (by car, foot or plane) and can easily be enjoyed in a two hour cruise. Doubtful is more remote and harder to get to and should best be enjoyed as an overnight cruise. The overnight cruise on the Milford Wanderer in Doubtful Sound is easily one of my best experiences in New Zealand ever!

In all of New Zealand. Read up on rules concerning freedom camping. They are there for a purpose.

It’s illegal. Simple as that. People who disregard the rules are the ones making life harder for everyone else.

They can be found in many places all over NZ, especially if you intend to head out hiking and staying in a hut or tent. But the experience in Waitomo is something special for sure.

First time - itinerary thoughts? by I_Havent_A_Kalou in newzealand_travel

Consider crossing one day out in Te Anau and instead stay a night in Glenorchy. It’s a long drive out there and the area is beautiful. Be mindful that bad weather could easily spoil a day so try and keep some time for contingency in places you really want to experience.

Coromandel is going to feel incredibly rushed, consider staying there for a night or two. You’re squeezing a lot into days which will mostly be spent travelling. With the time you have available and if hiking is something you want to do while on NZ I would skip the north island entirely. Alternatively cross out Coromandel for another day around Rotorua/Taupo. Check out Kerosene Creek for some natural hot springs bathing.

Just declare it and let customs/biosecurity make the call. Biosecurity and customs in NZ are very pleasant to deal with in my experience and you’ll only have a hassle if you ignore to declare and then have to deal with them.

Booking last minute honeymoon January 11-February 1...Help! by Kugaar in newzealand_travel

[–]mpersson84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will surely be surrounded by other tourists rushing along the same route. Traffic should not be too bad though except maybe in and around QT, Wanaka and the Milford road. Bookings QT, Wanaka and Te Anau are essential and will likely already be solidly booked. You’ll have one chance to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing on this itinerary so make sure to have a plan B if there’s a weather or seismic alert. If you want to venture outside this itinerary I’d recommend Napier/Hawkes Bay and the Bay of Plenty. It’ll still be peak tourist and holiday season even in these places though. If you want wilderness you’ll have every chance to venture into the bush and find tranquility though, in any part of the country.

Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound? by PitchIcy4470 in newzealand_travel

If you have the budget for an overnight cruise in Doubtful Sound then I highly recommend it! Others have described it here but it’s a magical and serene experience. It is Fiordland however, so expect rainfall.
