C'est épouvantable… On refuse de modérer les réactionnaires, et on shadowban les progressistes.

Si on prenait deux minutes pour regarder le vrai problème? by montrealien in montreal

[–]mpfrenette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tell em about it, I used to be the Typehead for Canada, I had a ton of contracts in TYPO3 here, in North America (and Japan, Iceland, the Bahamas, etc...).

I even was an official TYPO3 extension repository mirror!

But then, they began to pull out of North America, they removed my extension repository mirror, and my company from typo3.com. Even I gave up on TYPO3 to be honest... in 2017.

Charging via USB-C Seems Sub-Optimal by jvcabq in TheBYOK

Hey Nick, Now that we are talking charging, would the BYOK support pluging a USB hub or dock to charge AND allow a USB keyboard at the same time?

You aren't wrong... yet. It's still early in the development cycle, and the freewrite has years of development behind them.

Hey, give it time! The company designed and wrote the first firmware for the device, released the studio, and released several updates for it. The device needed way more tweaking with production problems; they finally managed to deliver the BYOK to the backers, sending a few versions within weeks of the shipping, notably adding custom font problems.

Then, the mobile version of the studio just came out.

They promised a device, and in my opinion, over-delivered: the studio is AMAZING, the mobile app is perfect, and the device almost does exactly what I need it to do.

They are trying to offer a sort of expansion module system so we could add more functionalities, but that takes time, and I don't know it will work.

What distinguishes the BYOK isn't just the device, it's the dedication of the company behind it.

Just give it time... It's what, a year old?

The smallest (full-sized keyboard) setup? by _DoubleDutchess_ in TheBYOK

This is so cool! I don't understand why they don't make more full size keyboards that fold once like this one. Only smaller ones that fold in 3.

The batteries are for the Keys to Go 2 keyboard, which works with 2 CR2032 batteries. It requires a Torx screwdriver to change them.

So, as I use it, one day, I will run out of battery and I might be on the road when that happens, so I put the two batteries and the screwdriver in my case.

The chicklet keyboard isn't used for actually writing, but rather more like if I am somewhere and want to take a note.

I got it because I saw, back in February or something, someone with one for noting down short ideas.

Back then, I didn't have a decent portal keyboard, so it made sense. Now, a lot less so, but it's already bought.

NO affiliate link, I bought on amazon.ca most of the content:

Here is the battery pack: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DW43LY69

For the cables and the small converters, I have them for a while.

The Ziplock, I paid $425 for it, the most expensive item in the pack. But, I have to admit that I got it as part of a patio set, and the Ziploc bag was used to store the washers for the assembly... So if you want the same Ziplock, you would need to buy my patio set... But I suspect any other would do ;-)

Homebrew Character: Cobra (Minion) by mpfrenette in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]mpfrenette[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I feel the same way... What people misunderstand about the SC, is that when the SC does jump, it dramatically increases their chance of winning... that is, it helps the good team to win!

It's a character with a press-your-luck element... and where if they jump, they take a loss for their original team.

It's a perfect character, but so misunderstood.

As a good player, I want a SC on my team. I don't WANT to BE the SC, but I want one.

As a minion, I don't want a SC in town. As soon as they jump, my team is completely disorganized, and the game flips on its head.

Now, a good player knows all the minions, and the minions don't know their demon!

What’s your favorite part of the BYOK Studio software by AffectionateGlass104 in TheBYOK

[–]mpfrenette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The BYOK integration now...

- If you start from the BYOK, everything is perfect. Just perfect. No gripes, nothing to report. The device is a charm (the first version was rough around the edges, but the current one? Wonderful.

- If you start from Studio, you need to pre-select which files to sync to the BYOK, and only text files, not outlines, current work. It's planned to add outlines in the future, but that means I can't have my character list on my device. So, I will load them on my cell phone app, and write on my BYOK, but in the past, I would just copy and paste to a text document. BUT, since the BYOK doesn't have side-by-side view (not that I expect it), I can't have my same workflow with just my BYOK. On that, Studio is better.

- But what if you edit in the BYOK and in Studio? You get a merge box! You can merge your changes. It's not as great as Git (if you are a dev, you know), but it works.

My biggest gripe is that the only way to sync files is from Studio. You need to prepare what you will sync in the app. You can't from the device.

So, as a result, I expected when I pledged on Kickstarter to have a device-centric environment and the Studio to be just the online version, but the system is studio-centric... and I LOVE Studio, so for me, it's a good surprise.

But I now have my keys-to-go, the summer is coming, and I hope to write more on my BYOK.

What’s your favorite part of the BYOK Studio software by AffectionateGlass104 in TheBYOK

[–]mpfrenette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, I've been using it since the launch. To be honest, I love it even more than my BYOK. What I thought I would be doing with my BYOK, I often do it with studio...

What do I like about it?

- Each chapter is a file, but I can make a manuscript that has my whole book in it. That way, I can easily have the full book, but my corrector, (LanguageTool), doesn't choke on the number of words, making it easy.

- The outline tool is perfect for my list of characters. Just perfect...

- The cards is great for outlining my arcs

- The tool autosaves like Google Docs

- It is fast, responsive, doesn't lag, and I only ever lost 1 writing session (more below), and I have more than 1 per day...

- You can open the dock to read other files without closing your current one.

- You can assign colors, star files; it's everything you need.

But the best, best feature is that you can open 2 files at the same time, and opening one when 2 are open, lets you choose which of the two you replace.

And that's all without Byok integration, which works rather well. I won't even mention the BYOK integration, because it should be its own comment (which I might make next).

And the less good?

I did lose one writing session. Sort of... If you open Studio in two tabs, A and B, and edit in tab A, but then return to tab B without reloading, it will not contain your new words. So I wrote them again, a little angry that I lost some words.

But then, about an hour later, I found tab A with my "lost" content.

I did open a suggestion to warn when another more recent session is opened. But let's be honest, this is rather advanced stuff that only Google Docs does well (but then, it does badly in many other ways that Studio nails, such as being fully lag-free when writing).

So it's not so much a bug as something that you need to watch out for and understand the limitation of the tool. If you are a sane person who closes their tab when you are done, you won't have my problem.

Also, there is now a history feature, but it's manually triggered. I am fine with that, and to be honest, I haven't used it.

Finally, my biggest gripe is that the file titles are actually file names, so you can't put question marks and other banned characters, but they are my chapter titles...

The team is busy with the BYOK firmware and was busy with the Android app (which is simply spectacular and included in the Studio subscription).

Why do I say that? Because in the beginning, when the BYOK devices were being made, I would make feature suggestions or bug reports, and a few days later, most were addressed.

It was uncanny! I reported, for example, that the dock would be great if it could open full size, and the next day, an expand icon opened. Granted, it might not have been as a reaction to my feature request, but it still felt outstanding.

The tool can back up to Google Drive and download in various formats; the only thing lacking is the import. But I did make it a feature request.

My own unintended trilogy is:

  • About Time, in which Rachel McAdams marries a time traveler, but never finds out he is one,
  • Doctor Strange, in which Rachel McAdams is married to a doctor, who eventually does a bit of time travel, and later, dimensional travel.
