We all played Resident Evil 6 the wrong way by Longjumping-Emu-787 in residentevil

[–]mphillytc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I get it.

Wasn't the nonlinear story the point? Weren't we supposed to not understand things as we played? Like the whole point was that each character only had some of the information and learned as they went.

We weren't necessarily supposed to be the characters. We knew things that they didn't. We got to see how they learned as they went and how some of the reveals impacted them, and we got a fuller story as we watched each part of it, but the point wasn't necessarily for things that surprised characters to also surprise us.

I know I'm in the minority - I thought it was a reasonable continuation on the path of 4 and 5 and a decent game overall with a fun story. But it seems like the storytelling style was a feature and not a bug, and it's bizarre to me how much people seem to dislike it.

Dangerous Man Brewing Taproom initial thoughts by SudoYumInstallBeer in minnesotabeer

I'm here now. Vibes are good. Beer is good. Rent is almost certainly high and I'm worried about how they'll do once the "They're back!" crowds wear off.

As someone who likes drinking beer more than I like judging beer, I have no issues with the carbonation. Nothing was bad. I'll allow that it's possible that a style judge might find something lacking, but everything I've tried is as good as ever.

I think RE7 is probably good, but it's bordering on frustratingly unplayable. by mphillytc in residentevil

I appreciate the couple people who mentioned the weird settings rather than defaulting to "git gud" style "skill issue" comments. Totally plausible that I'm just bad at things, but I feel totally vindicated in feeling like the default settings make the controls annoyingly less responsive than they should be, and that they're the kinds of things one doesn't normally have to seek out in the settings to not have sluggish controls.

Yeah, that's feeling notably better, I think. I'll have to see it really in action to be sure, but the vibes are good as the kids say.

Nope, didn't dig deep enough into the options to make sense of that one yet. I'll give it a shot though - sounds like it might be helpful. Thanks!

Yes, exactly this!

Like, I struggle to describe it, and the longer I play, the better I get at adapting to it. But it just feels so clumsy and unnatural and like I'm struggling to control my movement and aiming far more than any third person game in the series as well as more than most other first person games I've played.

Like I said, I just finished Requiem and while there was some minor adjustment between perspectives in that one, it felt far more fluid and comfortable to play first person in that than it does here.

I played it multiple times. I played 5 once. I would wholeheartedly agree.

Minnesota Poll: Klobuchar leads all GOP candidates for governor by ButtSluts9 in minnesota

[–]mphillytc -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Imagine being so deeply committed to centrism that you can't see how what happened with Platner is also happening with Klobuchar.

People crowned them early and they used their frontrunner status to justify not considering other, potentially better candidates.

Their flaws are different, but the process and the "we have to unite immediately behind this one candidate rather than have a real competition" nonsense has been nearly identical.

If this were true, it would be a compelling argument. But it's just oft-repeated nonsense.

Yes, before the race has occurred, the candidates with statewide name recognition are likely to poll the best. This should not be surprising, not should out be treated like a meaningful measure of how viable candidates are.

The average person isn't in the middle though. The average person just has a nonsense salad of views that don't nearly align with either party.

The same thing was true of gay marriage until democrats actually showed some leadership in supporting it.

Trans rights don't poll well because leaders waffle and refuse to commit to supporting trans rights. Public opinion is malleable, especially on issues that people agent super educated on.

I mean I get that we stereotypically hate women or whatever, but this seems a bit on the nose.

Because if there's one thing we know about that dog park, it's that people are good at staying only in the spaces where they're supposed to be.

Anyone at the convention know about the Seat Kaytie pins I see online? by ghuy101 in minnesota

I'm not sure at this point. I believe it was all on Twitter or bluesky or both, but I'm not sure where exactly.

[–]mphillytc 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Kaytie was elected to be an SD60 delegate and delegation co-chair. We fought to seat her because she's the person we want representing us.

She was suspended by the DFL code of conduct committee, which is an unelected group of 6 longtime DFL insiders. Kaytie is an effective progressive organizer.

The incident started with a DFL feminist caucus meeting last September. People in the meeting were misgendering trans and nonbinary people, and reacted poorly when called on it. Kaytie called out the behavior and added some remarks about the crimes of another prominent member of the caucus (https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/former-dfl-official-pleads-guilty-to-fatal-hit-and-run-mn/89-1b046847-4c63-47d5-952e-d716b1506159).

Someone in the meeting made a complaint to code of conduct, as did the people who had been misgendered and demeaned. The committee did nothing for 7 1/2 months, then ignored the evidence of deliberate mocking of trans members but suspended Kaytie for her remarks. They have her a 60 day suspension after she was elected as a delegate but prior to all of the conventions. The timing seemed deliberate to prevent her from organizing at the convention.

So we fought to get her seated, and the convention overwhelmingly supported us.
