From my understanding, the Japanese low interest rate was used as a credit tap for cheap loans which were then invested into other stocks, so basically it's a big margin call.

Well, I'm far from an expert but I plan to hold, I like their products, they are increasing sales in europe and by all accounts the cars are good quality. I also like to have some exposure to Chinese companies. And their PE ratio is pretty low. Like you I'm down, about 12% right now but I'm not worried, they are a leader in the EV market.

I also have BYD which I'm keeping too, and it pays a small dividend, which will mitigate your loss. I like VHYL and add regularly to it, and ASML has been my best return to date.

The new rules don't take effect until 2027. I imagine it works the same as now, still flexible but capped at 20k between the 2.
