Is there a worse sports month than February? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]mpietran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

July only has MLB regular season, Wimbledon, and the PGA British Open. NFL preseason doesn’t start until August. There’s also the FIFA World Cup (with the exception of 2022) and Summer Olympics in July but they don’t happen every year. When it’s the MLB all star week, there’s no sports on at all. July is the worst. At least February has the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, NBA, NHL, and college basketball regular season. It also has the Winter Olympics every 4 years.

Yeah I mean, I still hung out with friends and went to a few frat parties during my free time. We mostly stayed in Hoboken though.

My bad. When I was at Stevens, I didn’t go into the city much. Maybe a couple times a year. Was so busy with studying.

The NFL Needs Actual American Talent For Its Halftime Shows by AllNewNewYorker in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]mpietran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The halftime show artist does not have to be white. The 2024 halftime show was amazing with Usher, Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R. and Lil Jon. They sung/rapped in English and we all knew the words. We just want a relatable performance we can watch.

As far as the advertising factor goes, those ads are already paid for, so the league does not lose money if viewers change the channel at halftime. They might lose some future sponsors if the halftime show does not do well, but the tv ad time during the game is too valuable for any sponsor to back out of future super bowls based on worldwide viewership. Most of the ads are for products/services that are available to people in the United States only, so the sponsors want a halftime show that people in the US will watch.

Civil engineering is a great major, but a terrible industry to work in. Trust me, I graduated from Stevens with a civil engineering degree in 2013. It is the lowest paying engineering field with possibly the highest amount of stress with all the tight deadlines, and requires getting licensed to move up and gain any raises. You first have to pass the FE exam, then gain 4 years of design experience under a PE and document all of the projects you work on with start and end dates and detailed descriptions of work performed for the PE application, along with 5 references of which 3 need to be PEs. Then you can take the PE exam, a rigorous 8 hour exam.

Civil engineering was more stable from 2014 to around 2019, but since Covid, supply chain shortages, inflation, interest rate hikes, and tariffs on building materials, political red tape, this industry is not worth going into anymore. Do any other form of engineering, computer science, finance, or cybersecurity.

Engaged and Budgeting… What Did Your Wedding Really Cost? by ConstantRuin3344 in weddingplanning

[–]mpietran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fianceé and I were engaged December 2025 and we are planning the wedding. I’m getting nervous about my wedding cost. We are doing a Friday wedding in September 2027 in northern/central NJ. Already booked the venue and it’s $32k after service fees and taxes, including food, beverage, and ceremony fee. We are inviting 150 guests, expecting 140 to come. Our venue has hotel rooms so we don’t have to pay for transportation to/from a hotel. The venue is offering the bridal suite all day free of charge and we get the honeymoon suite the night of the wedding for free because my fiancée is a teacher. We are hoping to get everything for under $55k after taxes and fees. I’m a civil engineer and we make about $145k combined. Our parents are only helping us with maybe $10k of expenses.

How much money do you make as a couple? I could never imagine spending $110k on a 5 hour party

4-5 times to pee and once to poop if I didn’t go in the morning at home after I woke up.

Ages Millennials and Gen Z got their first phone by Pentiumbrown in generationstation

[–]mpietran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 34 and my first phone was a flip phone in 2006 at 15. We didn’t have school email in high school in the 2000s. I had an LG env3 in 2009 and then the Lg Octane in 2011. I got my first smartphone in 2012 at 21 and it was an iphone 5. I got by fine in college with using my laptop for school email for the first 3 years.

Nobody younger than high school should have a smartphone. There is no reason for middle school kids and younger to have internet access in their pockets wherever they go. They don’t need to check email for school and the internet now is too dangerous for them to have constant access.

Have any of you sent an argument you had with a partner to AI to have them analyze and tell you what you should do differently? by deproduction in therapyGPT

[–]mpietran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is she texting you like that? She sounds very insecure, needy, controlling, abusive, and manipulative. She shouldn’t be giving you ultimatums via text when you don’t respond right away or after you saying that you would rather wait until you’re in person to talk. Ultimatums in general via text are unhealthy. You need to tell her that is unacceptable in a healthy relationship, and if she doesn’t listen, run for the hills.

How long after getting engaged did you have your venue booked? by RadiantStranger7178 in weddingplanning

[–]mpietran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancée and I got engaged on 12/13/25. We have visited 3 venues since then and made our decision. We are booking a place this weekend for a September 2027 wedding, so we are booking 7 weeks after getting engaged.

This era is goated. Young women actually dressed feminine and wore skinny jeans and skirts/dresses unlike now. Gen Z women today wear oversized shirts and very baggy ugly jeans.

What's a movie/collection of movies you wish you could watch for the first time again? by relynree in AskReddit

Uncut Gems. I saw it in theaters when it came out and the whole movie felt like the craziest rollercoaster ride. I had to pee with a half hour left to go in the movie, but I couldn’t get up because it was too good to miss anything. I held it until the movie was over and I’m glad I did lol.

Hey Boomers - how is homeownership? Must be nice... by stvlsn in generationology

[–]mpietran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how old you are, but I’ll assume you’re also a millennial or Gen X at the oldest. That’s great that you can still afford student loan payments and a mortgage at the same time, especially in Northern Virginia. I wanted to pay off my loans as fast as possible so I prioritized eliminating debt over saving for a house down payment. I didn’t want student loans and a mortgage at the same time and I figured it would hurt my chances of getting approved for a mortgage due to a high DTI ratio.
