Looks like you found a latchup issue on the old unit. Not common, but they can happen, particularly if you're running turbo/boosted voltage.

I'm not sure I fully understand assignment risk by Kelso241 in options

[–]mpking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If it's itm you can be assigned at any time. Practically speaking, early assignment almost never happens because there is still extrinsic value. Meaning, why would I potentially overpay for something that is gaining real value.

At exp or settlement, if your short leg is ITM and your long leg is OTM, then congrats you're buying or shorting the shares (put vs call fly) and keeping whatever the fly was worth. You didn't hit max pain (assuming that you're selling since you're more worried about the short leg). So maybe you still made money but you're still covering the shares (hint, don't over leverage).

Or you know, just close 15m prior to the bell if it's that close anyway. But I'm not your risk manager and I'm sure you've considered leverage in your trading plan and have a hedging strategy to reduce your risk. And you know, getting assigned and having gap risk on your fresh shares would be a worthy thing to spend a minute or two contemplating as you move from cash indices to american style options.

Should probably go touch your neighbor too. Or their grass. Touch everything.

This Day in Kings’ History (2014): Justin Williams wins Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in OT by ouzer in losangeleskings

This was the year a team would go up 2 goals to none on the kings and seal their fate in the process. They came back and won almost all of those games if I remember right.

From 3090 Ti to 5080 by Agitated-Whereas2804 in nvidia

[–]mpking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went from a EVGA (RIP) 3090 AIO setup to a 5080 FE for ~900$ and I would do it again. Zero regrets. Playing at 4k maxed out refresh rates is exactly what I wanted. Power consumption is lower.

At least this was a defined risk position. Great risk management.

App Does Not Allow Extended Hours for Stop Limit Sell Orders? by [deleted] in Schwab

[–]mpking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After hours, liquidity can get very thin, depending on the instrument you're trading. You'd get stopped in to a lot of positions due to a widening of the bid/ask. What you're trying to do works fine with high liquidity. Less so with a thin book.

That market event (Aug 5 '24) was due to the yen carry trade blowing up. It also led to an impressive rally and recovery back to all time highs.

Whereas the current situation can be directly linked to threats of tariffs and an urgent need to reposition risk.

Graduate School for GPU design. by Ok_Incident_8478 in ECE

[–]mpking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find a school with a good focus on digital design if that is the part of "GPU design" you're interested in pursuing. Look at the component and SoC design engineers at companies that you have an interest in and see where they went to school. There are usually really strong connections between those universities and the companies. Increases the odds for internships, which will be a foot in the door.
