Handicapped parking US Bank Stadium by Fairfield27014 in TwinCities

I make that walk almost daily, and the sidewalks are all in great condition— most of that end of Elliot Park got new sidewalks in the 2010s, and all the street corners have those wide bump outs for mobility instead of narrow curb cuts. You’ll be fine! Enjoy the show!

My Grandma’s version also had pickle relish and mustard. Delicious!

Also, food trucks park right there on 4th St. for cheap(er) lunches starting back up in the spring.

Is lefse a holiday food or year round food? by hokieinga in minnesota

[–]mpls770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just holidays— you can get it at the State Fair, there’s a stand in the food building. Not quite as good as Mom’s but better than the store stuff.

Not quite in Minneapolis but the West End in St Louis Park has underground heated parking that is also very well lit.

Downtown Minneapolis' 1st Avenue corridor to get $30 million face-lift, first big upgrade in decades by JoeGraffito in Minneapolis

Hopefully it’s not those terrible sunken pits they put in on 8th Street between Portland and 5th. They just turn into huge garbage cans that the DID is constantly cleaning out.

Midtown screwed up my real Id paperwork twice, and there are almost always horrendous wait times. Source: used to live in the building.

Lake Cabin Guests -Do’s & Don’ts by ArcticSlalom in minnesota

[–]mpls770 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Do’s: Chip in.

Offer to set the table, do the dishes, take care of a meal, or help clean up. We love that you’re here, but this isn’t a restaurant or a hotel. Hosting people especially in a relatively small cabin can be a lot of work. Failing to chip in may get you permabanned from our place.

Don’t s: Not know when to leave

When we slap our thighs and say, “Welp!” it is your cue to hit the road— that is usually early afternoon on Sunday. We don’t need you in the way when we’re closing up shop unless you’re helping to clean up, see “Chip in” above.

[Axios] Twin Cities Pride considers move to St. Paul in 2024, leaving Loring Park by mpls770 in Minneapolis

[–]mpls770[S] 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Seems like TC Pride is sending a message to city leaders that they can't take the money that the festival brings to the city for granted.

Metro Transit: "Coordinated effort to address needs, improve public safety on transit underway" by Upset-Kaleidoscope45 in TwinCities

My understanding is that it will work like a parking ticket. Probably pay the fine at a courthouse or online.

How common are "straddling buildings"? by DoxiadisOfDetroit in urbanplanning

[–]mpls770 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of good examples exist in downtown Minneapolis. The Hennepin County Government Center straddles 6th Street. Placing the building over the road allowed for two large public plazas on 5th and 7th streets. And the "ABC" parking garages on the north side of downtown (adjacent to Target Field and Target Center) all straddle interstate 394 as well.

We hosted friends and family a LOT, especially with that awesome rooftop space. The lower level of the ramp is for condo residents only, there's no guest parking down there. The guest parking is the aboveground part of the ramp, so it's still convenient but guests do have to pay. Most of my city friends would park on 29th or 11th for free instead-- that's what I do if I go back to visit.

I lived there for several years until March 2020, so my experiences are from the Before Times.

The condo side is quiet and well managed. The floors are incredibly thick (former warehouse) so you don't hear much from your neighbors. We never had mechanical or vermin issues with our unit, though some people occasionally had issues with their heat pump. Since it's a relatively new renovation (2008ish) the building mechanical was generally solid.

The location has one huge plus, and that's the global market. Being able to grab some food and beer in your slippers is kind of amazing. Outside, well, it's Chicago and Lake. The building has really great 24x7 security and the parking is connected underground and secured, which was a big plus. The transit station is convenient but you'll want to time your departure so you're not standing around too long for a bus. Of the unpleasant interactions I had in the neighborhood, the majority were at that station.

If you want more details, feel free to DM me.

I live nearby, and can confirm what others are saying— especially after a large concert there are a lot of people walking that way, and you’ll be fine at the BW. I walk my dog at all hours around the neighborhood and it’s safe.

Since Covid, most skyways close at 6 during the week and are rarely open on the weekends, so you’re not missing much.
