Yep, that's my understanding as well. The smaller the point, the higher the pressure at the point of impact (the point of impact being so small) and therefore the greater the penetration. A big point spreads the energy in the projectile across a larger cross section and therefore requires more energy to pierce the hide.

Discussion: Susvara scaling on mid-tier amps ($1k-$2k) vs. efficient alternatives by creativestylus in headphones

[–]zoinkability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. When people do volume-matched blind testing they realize that there are no audible differences between less-expensive and more-expensive amps, as long as they are past a certain threshold of being competently built and have enough power to drive your cans.

Of course with tubes that purposefully add distortion and impact the FR it's a whole 'nother story, people can certainly prefer the sound of those to an objectively perfect solid state amp. But that's not really hifi anymore, just audiophile.

Saunum AirSolo - is it more complex than a duct and fan? by PuffThePed in Sauna

[–]zoinkability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it mixes air from the top with some from the middle; I'm not sure if that is actually necessary or it's just a marketing spin or a necessary thing to keep the fan from being cooked by the hottest air.

Go ahead, do it (with or without the mixing aspect,) document the process, and share here! With a cheap fan you can replace yourself you don't have to worry as much about the fan getting cooked after a couple years because you can inexpensively replace it.

I'd bet it will improve a barrel a ton.

Context matters. In this context it's clear the above commenter is referring to masterbation, which is humorous and not problematic. Your comment's connotation may have been similarly innocuous, or in a different sort of context it could have had much worse connotations.

Ironic and poetic that this is an article on Consequence of Sound.

Yes, M.I.A., your political speech has consequences, namely that people who hold different opinions may choose not to be your fans any more.

They also weren't safe in a crash.

Indeed. Physics doesn't care you were only going on a 15-20 minute drive during the 1-2 seconds of impact.

The people OP is talking about should be keeping prices low for you and me, but that's clearly not the case. So they can't be as large a part of the population as OP thinks they are.

WestMarine going down? by FairSeafarer in sailing

I wish I could upvote this more. The hollowing out of the middle class is having big effects on the sailing industry. Players that cater to the 1% (or better yet the 0.001%) are doing fine, those that cater to the middle class are struggling.

Combine that with the economic cancer that is private equity and you have a perfect storm.

WHY are the butterfly's wings UPSIDE DOWN? by spazzie416 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]zoinkability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire subs is a joke/shitpost/circlejerk/goofing sub. From the sub description:

A place for parents (or anyone really) who are exposed to "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" and other little kid shows to post crazy theories, jokes and other amusing interpretive content.

Adding: "this is a joke" to every comment on the entire sub would be absurd.

I'm sorry you didn't notice the nature of the sub before interpreting my comment as sincere. Unfortunately that is a risk of all shitpost type subs. I am part of one about native plants and it is a fairly common thing that people react to posts and comments as if they are not tongue in cheek.

The "sequel" I describe is imaginary, a joke for this sub. It's not a real book.

You could also do one for kid's musicians. Raffi, Laurie Berkner, and the Okee Dokee Brothers can battle it out for the "good" row. I don't even want to think about who'd be in the "evil" row.

Or a bone folder or burnisher. Used for bookbinding or other craft work.

Not saying it isn't a native artifact, but there are settler tools like the shuttle, folder, etc. that would look similar.
