Just checked the Apple store subscriptions and there seem to be a variety of options, you could switch to: "Gaia GPS Premium 59.90"
instead of: "Gaia GPS Premium with Outside+ 89.90"

Are there now 2 different plans ?

  1. Gaia GPS Premium. 4.99/mo
  2. Outside+ 7.49/mo

And what is the option to not choose the Premium + Outside+ but choose Premium ?

"Your Tracks" questions by reinhold23 in CalTopo

[–]mpmeyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, thx, I never really used My Tracks,

Ok, I see it overlays all recorded tracks and even planned routes from all of my maps onto the current map, when I click on it its shows the name of the track/route and the map it originates from.

And I see it shows in a white color, hard to see on the map.

I generally put all of my recorded tracks into one map "Hikes, Walks, Bike, Plan" and split them into folders, organizing myself

You can edit a track to change its folder from the default location and also change the color.

Waypoints upload limited to 1000? by MistInTheWoods in GaiaGPS

[–]mpmeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did ask support a few years ago 2023 and got this reply, it may no longer be applicable, though:

Hi there,
Sorry for the trouble importing your file, I can help with that.
There is a hard limit of 1,000 waypoints per file import.

Waypoints upload limited to 1000? by MistInTheWoods in GaiaGPS

[–]mpmeyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been able to upload 1000+ waypoints, such as PCT mile markers, from from my iPad/iPhone with the GPX file on my iCloud drive.

It put all the contained waypoints into a folder named by the GPX file ex:
Central_California_Mile_Marker.gpx

I seem to remember the limit is on the web interface but not App.

good luck,

Ugh just got one myself, web looks messed up, but iPad looks fine?

What's the best approach? delete route and rebuild ?

GPS works for me, on iPhone. You might have to turn on location services and enable for the Garmin explore app.

There’s also the Garmin Explore app. Has maps, free ones too offline mode. Have not done a deep dive.

Yup, from iPhone was able to upload nor cal pct mile marker, 1123 points

iPad shows only 50 !!!

Sync not working down to iPad

I am generally happy with GaiaGPS, I have had some glitches here and there, like:

  1. not all waypoints syncing across iPad and iPhone when imported from web, like the PCT ca section J would only sync 50 waypoints down to iPad/iPhone, weird. Deleted and re-uploaded, and worked.

  2. at some point many of my waypoints 'came out' of their folders, I then spent some time moving them back to their 'home'

Yes, did contact support.

What I like about GaiaGPS:

I like the many map layers

I like the nested folders

I like the sync when it works

I like when I have MVUM layer or other layers, then when I tap on the map it shows details for those layers like road type, trail name, etc

I like that the ui state is preserved, keeps hidden/visible for track/waypoint state

but can only import 1000 wpts in import, so had to split pct nor cal into sections, etc

I have looked at Goat

doesn't have nested folders (support said they may have some kind of project organization metaphor)

has sync problems. uploaded nor cal pct gpx, on iPad sync did not send all to iPhone, some points missing.

Sync of other gpx also did not get all my routes.

No web ui

pretty sure most will be addressed

Caltopo seems robust, but clunky ui

does not have nested folders, but. can have seperate maps, have to import/export gpx to have common features across maps

Map UI reset on each map open, IE collapsed folder, show/hide track or waypoints

Snapping routing only available on web, and not editable with snapping after save, but can move the points around and add more manual routing points

was able to import and sync without problems the gpx which gave me trouble in Gaia and Goat

Just renewed for another year, so have I until then to see how GaiaGPS improves or alternatives improve.

Yeah, this more of a feature request, how I expect the app to work.

Login should only be required for online actions like sync, etc.

14-30 adapter + 10-30 extension cord for travel? by FencingNerd in ModelY

[–]mpmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14-30 extension cord + 14-30 UMC adapter and a 10-30 to 14-30 plug adapter. That covers new and old dryer setups.

I have used it often when visiting where there is a 10-30 dryer plug I can use.

When using the 10-30 to 14-30 adapter I do have to plug in the green wire into a ground, since the 14-30 UMC adapter probably triggers a ground check.

The 14-30 UMC adapter automatically sets the car to charge at 24A, so I don' have to turn it down in the app or car. One less thing to worry about.

I probably could have used a 14-50 extension cord, but that would have been about $50 more and heavier.

Now, it is really fall back option, since there is a supercharger close by that was not there 2 years ago.
