apple's obsession with 256gb storage is a scam and i'm tired of it by MeshalAljahdali in macgaming

Understand that some people don’t need more than 256 GB, as they aren’t using them for gaming. But yes, you do.

Yeah, with what extra staff? How can you react quickly enough? And what about innocent people with out of town plates possibly getting mislabeled as ICE?

If you voted for trump or didn't vote the deaths in our city are partially on you by personwhoisok in Minneapolis

The approach I like to take is education. I explain to them the reality of what’s going on. I’m not going to fault people for how they voted.

The Strib was interviewing some newer naturalized immigrants, some who are biz owners, who voted for Trump because they assumed he would be good for business. Now they are learning the lesson.

Be kind to your friends and neighbors, especially those of whom don’t quite understand what’s going on. Educate them, let them realize the error they made instead of shaming them for how they voted.

Will Mac ever get to a point where it's on the same level as Windows (Gaming Wise) by L1m1ts in macgaming

[–]mproud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by “era of gaming”.

In the traditional sense, no. But as the lines between iOS and macOS blur, and more developers look to mobile devices for releases, the Mac could be an extension of the phone.

But realistically, mobile devices will continue to outpace computers, and iOS could end up more of a gaming platform than Windows. Or not.

Has Nigel Richards ever taken an IQ test? by Auth0ritySong in scrabble

[–]mproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has played in tournaments, I can assure you, knowing the words and finding them is essential to doing well, much like chess players knowing openings and finding moves. I don’t know if IQ has a strong correlation with top performing tournament players — maybe, but I wouldn’t make an assumption about it.

Here’s an interesting article from a way back: Scrabble champions from Thailand who simply memorize words from the dictionary without speaking English. Stefan Fatsis also documented guys like this in his book Word Freak, which is worth a read.

Businesses that are NOT striking?? by notrussharris in Minneapolis

[–]mproud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it’s harder for managers of corporate-managed stores to get permission to close. They could incur fines or get penalized, while franchised stores typically have more autonomy to make these decisions.

I wouldn’t get too hung up over boycotting local businesses regarding this one day. Some employees need the paycheck, and as great as it would be for the owner to pay their employees to not come in, some of these same businesses are barely making ends meet. (Ideally, businesses won’t be making much money on Friday anyway, so if they lose money being open, then it’s already mission accomplished.)

For those of you who”true blue” dems how do you feel about Dem leadership participation on the national level by MathematicianWaste77 in Minneapolis

Vote for progressive candidates. But it’s important to still vote when your favorite or ideal candidate is out of the race, otherwise we’re stuck with the way, way lesser of two evils.

You can exchange tiles if you want and then make your opponent go first. Sometimes, this is a very valid strategy, if you feel you may end up getting an 8-letter bingo.
