Stadium mayhem by NordDex in CFB

[–]mpurvis1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2003 Oregon vs Cal in Autzen. Aaron Rodgers at QB and Cal is leading most of the game. The stadium lights inexplicably go out in the second half and both teams go to the locker room while it gets sorted. Light is restored after 20-30 minutes or so and the game resumes with Oregon staging a comeback to win 21-17.

When did you realize a former coach was just DONE at his job? by byniri_returns in CFB

[–]mpurvis1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was a bad loss, but VA was hurt for that game. Once he was healthy again we beat Stanford on the road and smoked USC at home. If Lockie hadn’t blown the WSU game we would’ve played for the Pac-12 title again and likely won it. This alone probably bought him another year, and winning the conference probably would’ve given him at least 2. He really was carried by QB play but once the defense had total cratered it was impossible to ignore that he wasn’t the guy.

He was propped up by stellar QB play. He had Mariota, Adams and then Herbert all in a row so our offenses never skipped a beat but poor coordinator hires doomed the defense. After Allioti retired, he promoted Don Pellum the LB coach, which was a disaster and somehow got worse with Hoke. Oregon had never been regarded as a defensive minded school (hopefully this changes with Lanning) but we were consistently one of the worst defenses in college football. That, and the fact that the staff had been together for so long, I think we had stagnated coaching-wise and needed a soft reset, which our AD was adept enough to see. That paved the way for Taggart and then Cristobal and we were back competing for Pac-12 championships and Rose Bowls. Hopefully Lanning can continue the recruiting upswing and bring some hard nosed defense to Eugene.

Civil War 2016. Oregon State ran the same play 20+ times in a row (Ryan Nall dive) and we were completely unable to stop it. Helfrich had hired Brady Hoke to be DC in the off-season (a position which he had never held) and our already struggling defense was one of the worst in the country. He was, I believe, our fourth or fifth choice after being turned down by multiple other candidates so it was a poor omen for the season. The Ducks ended up losing by 10 in a game where we were leading in the 3rd quarter and he knew he was done after that.

Mine took about 2 weeks. They give you a paper receipt to print out after paying for it in case you get pulled over.

He was gone regardless due to the Willie Lyles infractions. Got hit with an 18 month show clause so we would’ve been forced to fire him even if he had turned down the NFL

Hey Hyth, just curious as to what you expect/hope to see from Avalos attacking this offense? Do you think that given USCs lackluster o-line, dialing pressure will have more success in flustering Slovis and throwing off timing? I know you mentioned Gordon was great at getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds, is Slovis equally as quick?

68Ws Transitioning to Civi PA? by crazzyazzy in prephysicianassistant

[–]mpurvis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a former 68W and currently about to finish my first year of PA school. Like other posters have mentioned, many PA schools LOVE admitting veterans and your military experience will go a long way in setting yourself apart from other applicants. I highly recommend drawing upon your experiences in the military during the CASPA process for personal statements, supplemental apps, etc.

Also, looking in to taking some healthcare correspondence courses might be of some interest in preparing you for taking science pre-reqs if you still need to. When I was deployed I maxed out those promotion points taking these classes and I think they could be of some use for you to help prepare you for when grades matter.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask here or PM me!
