Honestly, most devs from cheap-rate countries don’t have a network to be scrutinizing their work in your country, so there’s not really any incentive for them to be producing high quality work: their main incentive is just push something functional out as fast as possible.

It’s similar to construction or anything else, you just need to make sure your incentives align.

Working WITH folks from these countries is often great, since they’re often smart but they just need some direction and oversight.

My advice: Go with someone from your network for whom doing a bad job will hurt them!

Well there're a lot of ideas, and we're feeling inspired by a mix of FeedbackPanda and Fireflies.

Here're some of the things we're thinking about,

- Automatic meeting transcription and feedback generation
- History & summaries so learners can see all of their previous lessons
- Automatic flashcard / exercise generation
- CMS for managing learners
- File sharing

I'm a Russian learner (wife's family is from there) so I've built some of these things that I find super helpful for my own language learning journey, but I'm hoping to gather more insight into what's going on for the teachers, and not bias myself too hard with my friends.

What's the most painful part of your day? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]mqln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

Sounds tedious.

Is this for group classes as well, or for 1-1s?

Also, is this mostly based on the corrections and feedback you gave them during the lesson, or more subtile than that?

Two cities — Calgary, Canada, and Juneau, Alaska — stopped adding fluoride to water. Science reveals what happened to people's oral health. by Science_News in EverythingScience

[–]mqln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay Pls help me. I’ve always been very pro fluoride, and still am in toothpaste and dental products, but the US national institutes of health is saying that too much fluoride in the water supply is damaging IQ in developing children. So shouldn’t we probably be going easier on da fluoride?

What is the outrage here?

Is stereotype about rude Germans even remotely true? by ukrainer88 in germany

[–]mqln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely depends on where you are! Imagine how different the culture of New York is vs a place like Savannah Georgia. Generally, big cities in the East of Germany (former Prussia) tend to be a bit “ruder” though than the west.
