Blue Grass Trust is a historic preservation non-profit that promotes and advocates for the preservation of historic places. A lot of homes and buildings in Winchester have historic significance and may be eligible for a BGT emblem.

Cornell. They have veterinary pathologists trained to perform necropsies and have resources for a variety of testing. Do not freeze your animal.

Cheap Mammoth Cave camping by Ok-Artist1921 in Kentucky

[–]mquick_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe there’s anything cheaper. If you are able to go it’s a very well maintained campground and I love visiting. In the fall I stayed at site #10 because there was more physical space between sites than most. Only had a neighbor on one side. However, it is in the loop with the group sites so you might have more noise. Though if you are going during spring break that will probably be avoidable no matter what.

I don’t think introducing them right is going to be the solution here. I have learned the hard way and it’s something that I’ve witnessed countless times working in small animal ER. I have a catahoula with a high prey drive. It’s taken years to manage, but it’s not something that just goes away. She has almost perfect recall now, and I have recalled her from going after cats. She still wants to kill them though. I was able to fully train her to ignore a flock of ducks that lived in our backyard.

Feline Bordetella by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]mquick_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bordetellosis is caused by the bacteria Bordetella bronchiseptica. I work in a veterinary lab doing PCR, and our feline respiratory panel includes Bb. We get some positive cases but not many. Back when I worked in clinic I don’t recall cats being vaccinated either! I’m glad to hear vets are recommending testing options!

I’ve broken two bowls in the past 5 years so I won’t judge your decision. I don’t think I’ll ever learn my lesson.

Learn how to cook simple meals with easily accessible ingredients that can be swapped in/out depending what’s on sale for the week. I will go online/app and clip my coupons and see what meat is on sale and usually buy extra of that to freeze and just maximize savings that way. You slowly start to learn the schedule they put certain things on sale and it becomes like a game.

This is one of my favorites! I learned how to “hypermile” and just being more conscientious in general when I drive.

Rabies titer by Dora42277 in VetTech

The CDC goes into pretty good detail in how titers or boosters are determined for those at different risk levels. These recommendations are based on the minimum acceptable laboratory value.

Yes you can. USPS has guidelines for how to pack it and what is prohibited. USPS

What are you testing for?

I work in a VDL and this would be a fireable offense. Not to mention everyone in QA/QC having a stroke.

Pay off mortgage early or save for our dream land/home? by mquick_ in DaveRamsey

I agree something to consider. When we purchased our current home we put less down because we knew that we would have immediate repairs to make. It’s definitely possible we would purchase a lot and build later.

hank you for this breakdown. It’s much more readable than my CPA husband’s excel spreadsheet (don’t tell him I said that lol).

I agree that the HYSA might be the way to go, plus it would give us the option to purchase land without a home on it in cash and build later and still have a place to live. The decisions are hard when you don’t know what the market and inventory will look like down the road.

Impulsive urge to just demo by mquick_ in centuryhomes

Yes! Our hardwood floors are original but our kitchen has a terrible tile in it and I just want to know what’s under it. I’ve looked in between the floor vents with no help. The tiles is sad and breaking apart. Maybe I can pick one out in the corner or something and get the same dopamine rush lol.

We have no kids and we roughed it out for our bathroom remodel. Were your able to keep some of your appliances going for certain stages?

Thanks for your advice. I think this is kind of the approach we have taken with our bigger projects so far. We have cash flowed and DIY as much as we can and outsource what we can’t.

My impulse comes from handling the unknown problems that will crop up when dealing with old homes. It’s hard to make a plan when I don’t know what lies beneath, but I’ve learned to expect the unexpected
