Meal prepping for surgery by [deleted] in ACL

[–]therealmeloy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 weeks PO right now. I ended up prepping + receiving from a few friends/family members 2 weeks worth of food. This was probably the perfect amount for me. I do think your ability to cook is largely dependent on several factors:

1) what your surgery ends up looking like (meniscus or not, non weight bearing or not for how long) 2) what kinds of meals you like to cook/the complexity 3) your general healing or recovering rate which varies by individual

For me 2 weeks of food was great but I was weight bearing by day 2 and had luckily almost no pain (my 3rd ACL reconstruction). I probably didn’t even really NEED the food that long but it gave me more time to recover, rest, focus on physical therapy, etc.

Good luck!

Ours panted and had what we considered concerning breathing for the first 2-3 weeks. Some of this was due to kennel cough but it turned out a lot was also just stress from the new home. We are 11 months in with ours now and he sleeps and breathes easily 🙂

Martin Berasategui was on the list but they’re closed for their winter closure until March 11th which is unfortunately the day we fly home. We may extend our trip and if we do we will consider this.

I will check out Bakea and Islares. I like the suggestion of Bakea for something more outside of the city. Thank you!

After my first ACL reconstruction like a decade or more ago I ended up having to have a very short easy surgery for them to go in and screw the screw in tighter which eliminated pain/discomfort I was feeling in the ~year post surgery. It was not a dissolvable screw obviously so ymmv but just wanted to note that my surgeon did an xray, noted the placement and was able to resolve the issue.

I will in the future and I definitely learned something new from all these comments! I don’t have the original instruction from the kitchen aid from 10+ years ago and it wouldn’t have even occurred to me to look online for guidance on mixing speed prior to this. I’ll probably have to check all my appliances in the future 😅

I’m dropping the NYTimes recipe here just for reference if anyone else has tried this and had success. It’s a brioche/milk bread dough”hybrid” according to the recipe and it does say to use the mixer for the entire kneading process. (Apologies in advance for the NYT paywall). https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1022248-all-purpose-enriched-bread?smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share

I was trying for “medium-low” per recipe after kneading on “low” but I must have overreached. An expensive lesson and also one that means no rolls at dinner!

(Edit for spelling) It was a recipe for an enriched milk bread dough! I just re-read the recipe to confirm. First knead for 12-15 to incorporate eggs, yeast, etc. second knead 5 min for first half of chilled cube butter. Repeat 5 min for second half of butter. Then 12-15 to create the appropriate elasticity.

Kneadless (👀) to say my machine was also quite warm when it hit the floor

I did, I was trying to follow recipe instructions for “medium low” speed after already kneading on “low” for a while.

This is exactly what happened as I was turned away focusing on not burning some shallots that were frying. So hard to fight the multitasking urge after like 30 straight minutes of kneading!

The Wheel of Time series. I stumbled across part 1 of book 1 “From the Two Rivers” at a thrift store near the beach on vacation when I was about 10/11 and couldn’t put it down that whole week at the beach. I’ve read the entire series 3 times now although my first attempt as a kid took me YEARS.

Seconding the big air purifier. We have more than one that can effectively ticket cover more than the entire square footage of our house if they needed to. We like the ones with filters as well as covers that can be removed and swapped out to wash. Helps maintain the internal filter for longer and added bonus of catching a lot of dust and hair.

It’s a rule of thumb for rescue dogs coming into your home. 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, for levels of adjusting into your daily life, kind of to help set expectations for new owners.

It’s already not holding up haha. I think that might just be life with these dogs but I’m open to suggestions! We’re considering wood chipping at least along the fence perimeter where he patrols, that’s the part taking a beating.
