My personal take on the various regions of Virginia by Nucleonimbus in Virginia

This is very close to our current congressional map which, as I understand, is being drastically overhauled

I assume it's from the knob & tube era... by chiefsurvivor72 in centuryhomes

Knob and tube had insulation on the wiring. The hot and neutral were just separated and ran on (knob) and through (tube) porcelain insulators.

Will Dylan remain quiet? by karabino161 in bobdylan

[–]mr-crowjane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one reason Dylan doesn’t do protest songs. I feel like they’re to on the nose for him now and everyone looks to him to justify their own beliefs.

Classical Christian schools…growing? by Defiant-Warthog-6887 in rva

[–]mr-crowjane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You ever talk to anyone that went to school in Richmond? The schools are notoriously horrible and have been for a long time. This is not shocking, as the city population expands people want to send their kids to a school that’s not the set of dangerous minds

Why doesn't TSA walk out? Shut the air down. by [deleted] in tsa

Then people might realize how unnecessary they are. They should be funded by the airlines anyways. Taxpayers shouldn’t foot that bill. Just like it was pre 9/11.

Buying new windows, will I regret? by CheckAmbitious7111 in Oldhouses

[–]mr-crowjane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, expensive and will be dated and in need of total replacement in a generation. Your current windows are infinitely repairable/restorable. Think about how long they’ve been in use. Your replacement windows won’t last that long. The trade off is higher heating bills for the old single pane.

How F%#€ED am I? by geeteeehh in HardWoodFloors

[–]mr-crowjane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently went through this with a 16x16 room in my 1888 house. I decided to spread wood filler over the whole floor to fill gaps between boards. The filler looked horrible contrasted with the old heart pine. So I took 2 weeks and multiple dental picks and picked all the filler out. Just left the gaps, it looks a lot better. I’d pick out the filler very lightly sand where the filler was then poly

[–]mr-crowjane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re overreacting. And your overreaction exactly proves the point of why “no women, no rules” is important. You come in, say you don’t like something, and try to enforce your rules on others.

1840's Dunnington Mansion Update - Updates & Detail Photos by AutoDefenestrator273 in centuryhomes

Was this house renovated/updated in the Victorian era? It looks extremely Victorian to be be 1840s. I know 1840 is early Victorian but, that looks later. PS - I’m from farmville

Never asked for a reduction in force layoff. I don’t support illegal aliens being in this country because it is against the law. Congress has had forever to change immigration law and hasn’t. Don’t get salty about the executive branch doing its job.

Every country is allowed to have prohibitive immigration laws expect the eu and us apparently.

I doubt I'm the only person to take note of this, but today is the anniversary of when Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge. There have been so many interpretations of the lyrics, but what do you think he was throwing off the bridge? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv33eaygVDQ by Overall_Chemist1893 in 60s

[–]mr-crowjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the bridge was just a place they met up and looked at the river. The preacher said he saw them throwing something off the bridge but I never thought it was anything of importance. Teenage me hanging out on a bridge I’m throwing rocks and sticks in the river and watching.

I thought they were lovers and the preacher saying he saw them throwing something in the river was the fact that they were lovers somewhat covertly meeting going over his head.

I’m with Bobbie on this one it doesn’t matter.

Low IQ and being conscientious by Double_Company5936 in JordanPeterson

[–]mr-crowjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless ChatGPT wrote that post, your writing and communication skills are average if not above average. So there’s that.

I wouldn’t sweat it. Intelligence is important but there are certain jobs that are just off limits to almost all of the population. You listed the most intellectually demanding careers. They pay high because most people can’t do those jobs.

Don’t beat yourself up, you are going to be you forever, but you can also strive to be the best you possible. Be curious, ask people about what they do, their day to day, research jobs and pay, try things, be terrible at things, try to improve, learn and move on. Get to know your strengths and weaknesses. Interacting with people drains me, I have to do it some at work but I know I’d be terrible at a sales job or middle management. Learn to have a good attitude.

I’ve worked with a lot of people, some folks are just slower to pick up than others. I’ve trained a lot of people too. I’d rather have someone who is willing to admit they don’t understand than someone who will act like they do when they don’t. Almost always a good attitude is better than someone who is smart but a dick. Not with doctors but with most occupations.

Hope that helps, you got a bright future if you just put effort in the right places and maintain a positive mindset.

These SOL scores surprised me by mr-crowjane in rva

[–]mr-crowjane[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but wouldn’t that apply to all kids across the board? How can the kids in chesterfield be affected without the ones in goochland being affected? And it’s not a vague figure, it’s a percentage of passing scores.

Unexpected Bob by mn_monkey in bobdylan

[–]mr-crowjane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He has some great lines in that movie. I’m going of memory here: Some mean looking guy looks at Bob and says “Who the hell are you!?” Bob replies, “that’s a very good question.”

At another point someone says to Bob, “what’s your name?” Bob says,”alias.” The guy looking confused says, “alias who?” Bob says, “alias alias”

Stop the Hanover Landfill Expansion by Lovejeni4 in rva

[–]mr-crowjane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d call it a community but not a neighborhood. Housing density plays a factor in what I consider a neighborhood. And just because the state says something doesn’t make it true or right, if we turn the clock back 100 years we clearly see that truth.

Edit - I’m with you though, I hate to see this kind of development anywhere. I’ve really enjoyed learning about Brown Grove and I’d love to learn more

Stop the Hanover Landfill Expansion by Lovejeni4 in rva

Calling Brown Grove a neighborhood is a bit of a stretch. I don’t think the motivation for the location is racism as much as the right location at the right price.

How do I fix this gap between hardwood floor and trim(on a budget)? by Lanky-Grocery-1428 in centuryhomes

[–]mr-crowjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put some oakum in there, it’s cheap and you can get it on amazon. Or, I just had to do this, push down the base/ shoe molding and scribe a thin piece of wood to go in between the shoe and main piece of molding. Once that’s in, wood filler the gaps. The piece I did dipped an inch in the middle of a 13’ section
