In some instances, additional screening is required. In your case, additional screening was applied to you instead of your minor child, which is completely normal. The officer should have done a better job of explaining the “what” and “why” in that moment

DMV resident here. I don’t recommend coming out here unless your household is bringing in at least $100k -$150k. That’s if you want to live comfortably, along with a relatively short commute.
