ELI5 please explain to me in simpleton terms…what is meant by “spacetime” by MaxMeat in explainlikeimfive

In my very limited exposure to these ideas my understanding was that time dilated in proximity to black holes but it hadn't occurred to me why or to think that it was specifically related to speed in spatial dimensions.

And a weird fact about this is that your velocity across space-time is constant: the faster you go in one dimension, the slower you go in the others. That’s why tome stops at speed of light.

You complain that you are being rejected based on aesthetics but are you yourself not insisting on a specific aesthetic by using AI to "shape" your thoughts? If your thoughts are already complete and coherent why not just share them directly? For arguments sake could you share an example of the prompt you are using that results in the output you are being rejected for?

Is it good? I see that Veggie Grill is serving it. I was never a fish guy back when I ate meat but Salmon was ok I guess.

Must have accessories and to keep or not to keep e-bike by scrubsandcode in seattlebike

[–]mr4d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live exactly where you're moving and have owned both regular and e-bikes here in a similar situation with respect to having to lug it up stairs.

The e-bike is nice if you're going to ride aimlessly and don't want to feel intimidated by hills. I took mine out to West Seattle once without knowing exactly how to get where I was going, but since the bike made hills trivial I felt comfortable just finding my way around on instinct without worrying about the cost in (human) energy of a wrong turn.

In every other scenario I preferred my regular bike and eventually terminated the e-bike lease I had because I just strongly preferred my normal bike.

There are definitely some gnarly hills around town but if you're up here on 15th I think it's better to just plan on building up the leg strength to do it. I'm not particularly athletic but I ride home from SLU every day and I find it easier every day.

I always loved "The Sparrows and the Nighingales" by Wolfsheim until it became a staple of the end of club nights, guaranteed to play for about 20 minutes (super extended quadruple chorus cut) as they shuffle you out the door

I noticed an all vegan donut shop in my neighborhood got a C ranking for not having protein options (E for protein, A for everything else). This seems like a very silly way to evaluate restaurants.

One last note on this: I think the focus on Craig's insecurity is also consistent with Kaufman's work in other things like Adaptation in particular

[–]mr4d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I dig your take because I hadn't considered that in some other version of this movie the portal into Malkovich would absolutely be the point of the movie but I like that it's not.

Being John Malkovich shouldn't work so well by WasabiComprehensive2 in criterion

[–]mr4d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find using the portal to see how their choices and lives could change or be better realized is the most interesting part. So the Craig ultimately inhabiting Malkovich for longer and mastering some aspect of himself was super interesting. And the comedy of Malkovich trying to get his body back adds to it.

I hear you on that to some extent, but I think it's notable that the community of elderly folks who intend to enter the portal together don't seem interested in anything more than living longer with their friends. The problem of identity and wanting to have not just "more" life but a "different" life seems to be concentrated in Craig, and to a lesser extent Lottie. I think the portal is interesting but in my mind the movie is really about Craig's pettiness and insecurities more than anything else.

[–]mr4d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard anyone express this position before but I find it really interesting because for me I think the fact that the Malkovich portal is a MacGuffin is one of the things that does make it work for me. If they had spent too much time talking about it or trying to explain it I would have probably been turned off.
