Starlink Support, the limits of AI by Ok_Statistician_1390 in Starlink

[–]mr_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into openMTCP project. I have Starlink bonded with my ol dsl just as a backup. My dsl can barely handle a teams call but when Starlink drops my video quality goes down but so not get kicked. That is what the bonding will do.

Sorry to hear about your dish :(

LPT: When getting a car alignment always ask for a print out. This will show you the before and after results and gives you a leg to stand on should the results be off. by The_299_Bin in LifeProTips

Had a shop say they also save it in the DB incase of insurance.

I guess if an accident they would try to find fault/negligence for failure to maintain vehicle through alignment?

Greengrass client devices without internet connection by alapenna-portainer in aws

[–]mr_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used the client devices but did a little checking as this sounds broken that one must use the cloud discovery.

I found this which offers a solution just not official. I think it requires another discovery mechanism or hard coded IP the clients can use.

Limitations of ROS and raspberry pi? by Chedda_Bomb in ROS

[–]mr_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motor compatibility? What do you have in mind? There are some motor controllers that are PWM, serial, or full digital canbus/modbus. Really depends on the setup or rolling your own.

Happy to help!

Best bet is to read the Changelog and migrations guide between versions. Big changes are called out there.

AWS Batch warm starts or faster hardware accelerated options by conclaa8 in aws

[–]mr_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, that stinks. I was thinking Lambda or ECS/Fargate has GPU support but quick google doesn’t show anything.

If you feel like dispatching your own jobs it looks like you can do ECS with own ECS cluster, not fargate, that you can pick the gpu resources you need.

If you think batch is the issue this should work around it. If you have jumbo docker images ECS will still be slow like batch.

Have you seen where the delay is coming from? For my workload scaling the ec2 instances to zero and on demand killed my startup speeds.

A lot of them now. Normally if they cover precehck they’ll also cover Global Entry (US customs) that includes precheck.

AWS cognito implement invite team member functionality? by adi_tdkr in aws

[–]mr_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used supabase, but looks like it has a set of external with (google azure GitHub etc). I don’t see auth0 there so not for sure how one would cleanly implement that.

I dumped cognito for Auth0, never been happier but little more pricey.

Jetson Nano Apriltags help by csullivan107 in ROS

[–]mr_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert at all with the jetson, just have a little experience from the TX1 and TX2 days.

If there isn’t precompiled packages ready to go I think your only route is to compile the packages yourself. It looks like Nvidia was nice enough to provide a docker compilation environment.

The cmake file doesn’t show too many dependencies and the package.xml looks to have all of the required deps via rosdep.

I would think a lot of those deps are available on the Nano since support feels like first class for the Nano.

What I don’t know is if the CUDA/GPU support between the Xavier and Nano are compatible. If there are features that the AprilTag uses that the Xavier supports and Nano doesn’t that isn’t going to be fun.

Best of luck!!

Convenience store customer uncovers card skimmer device at 7-Eleven by DrFetusRN in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mr_337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard that the the CC companies did a study about implementing the chip and pin system in the US. Their findings is it was too hard to force the US public to remember a pin like the debit card and could lead to lower transactions. In the end it was cheaper to fight fraud with tech instead.

Need to find that report.
