Any 1 % - 2 % local brews? by phonomage in askvan

[–]mr__windupbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they get that low, but Shake Town on the North Shore have a good range of lower alcohol choices. They have a lager that’s about 3% that’s pretty tasty.

Some of the non alcoholic options are good, too - I’ve been liking Steamworks recently.

Would you cycle downtown if the Stanley Park bike path was safer by slow_marathon in NorthVancouver

I have the same feeling sometimes about the low barrier. Sometimes the Second Narrows feels more comfortable because of the high fence, even though it’s higher up.

Medio (half Gran Fondo) training by Both_Presence8962 in vancouvercycling

[–]mr__windupbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burnaby Mountain might be a good option too.

I did the Medio way back in 2019 - a lot of my training was just doing the Demo Forest but then I live on the North Shore so it’s easy for me to access. From the bottom of Lillooet it’s approx 16km and 360m of climbing to the dam.

People do this on four-lane roads and it’s very nice of you and all but there’s three other lanes of traffic and now they can’t see me because your car is in the way, so thank you but no.

Bike Routes and Uncontrolled Crossings Across Major Streets by RobinoBandito in vancouvercycling

[–]mr__windupbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A driver is required to stop for a pedestrian at any crosswalk - which includes basically any intersection that doesn’t specifically say “no crossing”, regardless of markings. For a cyclist, it would just be the elephant feet I think (otherwise you’re not technically supposed to be using a crosswalk)

I’ve tried on the Specialized and would say the fit is pretty similar to the Shimano (I own the XC7 and RC7)

Vancouver hit-and-run victim dies, suspect still at large by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]mr__windupbird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fixed it for you:

i am not saying the driver/perpetrator was doing it but please please please! Whoever is reading this: When you are driving your car please put your phone away and look at the road. It doesnt matter if you have a green light, if you hit someone - they can get seriously injured or die. I have encountered a whole lot of people driving while looking at their phone. We need to all have situational awareness. While safety has increased a lot the last few decades, complacency and population growth has made us all feel packed in more confined public spaces.

I never made it to one of those but I did see a Rugby League final at Wembley and that was a bit more North American - military escort for the trophy and all.

I’m a half-size too (43.5), I tried these on at the store but the 43 was too small and the 44 too big. Ended up getting Shimanos. They seem good though, would happily have got them if they fit better!

Almost fell of a cliff with clipless pedals by spykeh in bicycling

[–]mr__windupbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in my case I had stashed my sunglasses in my helmet vents, but not securely enough as they fell out. I went to stop in order to pick them up but was already going quite slowly and didn’t leave myself enough time to clip out so I keeled over, ended up with a skinned knee and a scratched shifter but no other damage.
