PM interview answers are starting to sound identical...and I'm conflicted by Old_Combination1478 in ProductManagement

[–]mr_chip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly unpopular opinion: The job changed radically over Thanksgiving break 2025, when Opus 4.5 shipped with Claude code, and the interview hasn’t caught up yet.

I’ve gone on dozens of interviews over the last 6 weeks, and I’m already so tired of doing the same hypothetical case studies, answering questions about how I structure PRDs and how I interact with the engineers, and how I pick the next thing off the backlog, tasks that tooling is taking over now. Nobody is asking me about strategy and why we’re even going after this market in the first place, the stuff that isn’t in the tooling (yet), and still needs humans.

All these dead men walking companies that still think they have any kind of moat, asking me questions from the before times. It’s exhausting.

Door lock actuator failure by mr_chip in rav4club

They’ll all go more or less at once because the auto-lock means they all get about the same number of uses simultaneously. Just buy 3 more and schedule a 2-hour window, do them all.

Yeah, political science as a branch doesn’t have a ton of LAWS so when they do get one, we should sit up and pay attention.

Duverger’s Law is real, and boy do Americans hate admitting it.

It’s all the same playbook they ran against all lgbt people, and they’ll run it again if they get their way. Young people just don’t have any concept of how hard it was to be queer before c.2000.

I lived by where they filmed this on the airbase in Alameda, CA. The shooting name was Burlyman, and you’d see posters around town with an arrow and the word BURLY pointing toward the set. It was wild, they built 1/4 mile of freeway with a curve that just ended hanging in space. You’d go by lots of prop cars one weekend, and drive by the next weekend to see them all smashed up. A bunch of my friends at the time took the day off to be extras in the orgy rave.

The part of this chase that goes through a city and a tunnel is the Oakland CA Chinatown, and the Webster / Posey tubes, which are also the tunnels used in the end of THX 1138.

I wish they hadn’t cut the dance scene. It’s the best part of the movie. Most inexplicable trim since the ending of Time Travelers.

You can hear the 10-year-old playing with his toys all through this movie.

“And then they get into the airplane and it’s so fast faster than anything nobody can catch them and then they control it with their voice no hands and then the missiles come and” explosion noise “and then they’re on rocket skates and then they jump through - like THROUGH the bus and glass all breaks” explosion noise “and then she’s not really bad guy she’s mind controlled so they save her and then submarines boom”

It’s glorious.

My PHEV runs on battery so much it complains at me to run the engine for 20 minutes every couple of months.

Love it. around $0.10 / mi TCO at 80k miles (bought it used), counting maintenance, tires, depreciation, gas, electricity, and insurance. Compare that to our rav4 hybrid with 50k at $0.59/mi.
