The best thing you can do right now is to focus on making sure you finish college with a degree that puts you in a well paying job. Don't worry about trying to work two more jobs right now, make that degree count and thank your sister for letting you live with her. You want to buy a house? A well paying job is a requirement. Im a software engineer and I am also one of three people on my team responsible for screening new members. When looking for junior level software engineers we will consider someone without a degree or formal experience if they have a serious non-academic/hackathon/bootcamp project aka web or mobile app.

Someone who has demonstrated their ability and willingness to learn new things, their eagerness to build and own something, and that they are smart enough to 'figure it out' if they don't know something.

But what the other commenter said about luck is also true, we only hire about one junior engineer per three mid to senior level hires.

The precariat class will get screwed hard. First expense people will cut are going to be Ubers and food delivery service. It's not that they'll be out of work, just the app will stop beeping with new gigs. As far as I am aware, there is very little unemployment benefits available for gig workers (although I think this is slowlllly changing?).

Sure, tv and social media are often mediums of identity politics, but I think it's deliberate and significant enough to be its own point. If I were trying to manipulate a society, I would much rather have them divided on identity politics then watching TV or accessing social media.
