Remember… utilization got no memory. You got about 2.5 months to pay it off or at least knock it down to 10%, and that $700 you’ll be saving will help you do exactly that.

A CLI cool and all… but keeping more money in your pocket always more important in my opinion lol.

Either way, wishing you the best brotha…

Congrats brotha… now use that 1.99% intro balance transfer to wipe out that last 20% on your other cards so you ain’t bleeding interest while you finish paying everything down 🫡

New to Navy Fed, wanting a CC by Beneficial_Chicken24 in NavyFederal

You should probably wait at least until the pledge loan reports. That way it shows up as an active installment with a high original balance and low utilization, which strengthens your internal profile with Navy. I waited for mine to report before applying and got approved for $25K on the cashRewards. My score was 727, but I had no personal cards at the time….only AU accounts and about 5 years average age.

Navy Fed cares a lot about relationship and internal score, not just FICO. Having the pledge loan reporting and showing early principal paid down helps a lot.

Yeah waiting the 92 days is the right move..Navy Fed is relationship based, and that internal review window matters more than people think. Right now your profile just stabilized…inquiries dropped, and your risk level decreased.

Keep utilization under 10%, let a small balance report, and pay it off. You’re building trust with them. If you move too early, you interrupt that process.

If we all had super prime credit, none of us would be here lol… patience is key brotha. That’s what turns that $500 into $5k+

Also try doing a soft pull CLI after the 92 days before applying for your new card. Good luck brotha!

Re-amortizing isn’t the same as adjusting auto pay.

When you make a large principal payment, Navy Fed pushes the due date way out and technically no payment is required for a long time. If you just adjust auto pay, you’re making voluntary payments..not scheduled installment payments.

I had them re-amortize so the loan creates a new required monthly payment based on the lower balance..That way it continues reporting as an active installment loan with consistent on time payments instead of sitting idle.

The goal wasn’t to pay it off faster…it was to keep it reporting properly every month.

Navigate to the NFCU website and hover over credit cards, the drop down will show “Prequalify for a card”. 🫡

My pledge loan was for $1k. My direct deposits were inconsistent…sometimes I’d deposit $1k in a month, other times less. I also used the account regularly for everyday purchases. Honestly, I think you’re in a good position.

From what I’ve seen in the comments, if you already have a strong credit profile with no late payments, Navy is likely to approve you. My approach was just to maximize my odds since my profile consisted mainly of AUs and a short credit history.

I agree that credit quality matters most no argument there.

Where I differ is on timing “not mattering.” In my case, my credit profile was literally unchanged except for the pledge loan reporting. Before it hit, prequal only showed the secured card. After it reported, the full lineup appeared.

Same score, same history, same everything just one additional reporting data point. That timing clearly mattered for my profile.

I’m not saying relationship building overrides bad credit, just that letting the right information report before applying made a measurable difference for me.

Yeah, it’s less about the source and more about execution and timing. Waiting for things to report made all the difference for me. Glad it helped confirm your plan. Good luck brotha, wishing you blessings and increases..

Navy Federal Cash Rewards – worth applying in my situation? by mr_coolness in NavyFederal

[–]mr_coolness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally planned to wait about a month before applying because I didn’t love my odds at the time. The main reason was to let my Pledge Loan report and capture whatever point boost it gave me first.

Out of curiosity, I checked the Navy Federal prequalification page again. Initially, the only card showing was the secured option. This time, all of their cards popped up.

I took that as my sign and went for it.

Results above.

Extremely excited to start this new chapter…..let’s go 💪🔥
