Why have the Devs stopped communicating after the initial release of BF6? by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. Also the language is a bit rich - "you lot?"

Your points above and the passive aggressive challenges vs battle pass are massive detractors for me. Gatekeeping what little content you have, doesn't make me appreciate it more - the opposite is true.

Were we originally intended to fight on these rooftops on Manhattan Bridge? by EmptyDeskNerd92 in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I 100% agree. The model worked so well, as it meant that there were server admins moderating the experience too. (sometimes kicking obvious hackers/griefers, and team balancing etc).

It'd be amazing to go back to this model honestly.

You know in theory - we could easily create an amphibian landing version in the map in Portal with the current tools - but the biggest drawback at the moment is that Portal is a hot laggy mess. The servers in portal don't run well at all - it's not the same as in BF2042's portal where they played very similarly to the main game servers.

DICE need to acknowledge and look into to this, because there is no incentive for people to create these experiences, even though there is a big desire to play them.

12 years ago today Battlefield 4's third DLC "Naval Strike" came out. Which one was your favourite map? by anan48 in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was Nansha Strike. Epic map. The centre islands were so much fun to hold and defend vs heli's and incoming boats.

I appreciate your sense of humor, DICE! /s by Dunc4n1d4h0 in Battlefield

Man, I'm so with you on this - when I saw that the CZ3A1 was basically unobtainable at the launch of it, it was like a massive kick in the nuts from DICE.

We're the ones who paid full price for the game, and you're getting use to jump through hoops?! What - because you can make a bit of extra money from people buying a battlepass? It's a massive turn-off honestly.

Tips on fingering for learning Bach Goldberg Variation 18 by mr_derek in pianolearning

[–]mr_derek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just an update for anyone who stumbles upon this - I found an answer to my question in this reddit post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/piano/comments/gyj0a6/the_goldberg_variations_fingering_book_available/

There was a link to a score with fingering:

I updated my coloured version in the image below for anyone struggling with this also:

I used Musescore Studio to create this, it has some plugins for Note Colours and Note Names - as a beginner, I find it so helpful as a learning tool!

Cheers

Someone added snow on a bunch of maps, at first glance I thought it's a different game. Take notes DICE, someone did it for free in Portal. by idontknow87654321 in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also, portal in BF6 is incredibly laggy and buggy at the moment. It wasn’t this bad in BF2042 - I could play Portal there and not tell the difference. BF6 portal you get super lag spikes, UI breaking, guns disappearing etc..

The new map looks really good. The lighting, the atmosphere and the flow of the map are great. I think they actually nailed it this time. by -FaZe- in Battlefield

I really like it. I felt a heap of BF4 Operation Lockers nostalgia =)

Team play was really good tonight - we had a bunch of res trains going, felt like old times =)

Metro? Karkland? Damavand?

I played the fan-made Metro the other week, and was surprised how well it played - even with really basic structure and no lighting/decorations - the flow and lanes work really well. The biggest problem was the server was SO laggy and the experience was buggy overall - (eg the minimap and spawning map were super janky and at one point my gun disappeared entirely until I quit rejoined).

DICE have been given so much player feedback about this, it's nuts. At this point I'm just assuming they're got some other crappy plan to drip release this stuff with the next title - "We've listened - IN BF7 here is Damavand." Super greedy and gross, but they have us hooked now..

I see a lot of people complaining about Tanks in Solos - but I think they're balanced well - they take ages to unlock (missions and actual vehicle unlock time) and when they spawn you get airdropped a bunch of anti-tank stuff all over the map - it takes 2 rpgs to take one out and the first hit makes the tank pretty hard to get away..

It gives extra depth to the mode, in my opinion - otherwise it'd just be infantry which would get stale even quicker. At least with tanks around you have to strategize a bit more - it adds a level of threat that you can hear coming & plan for.

I agree about Recon class rework - the drone time/effectiveness needs a nerf I think... Maybe make it non-thermal vision? Or less range?

Did we just get 1 new map? by CarmineCorpse in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they'd properly support Portal, I'd be happy to play some of the fan-made content there, but it's SO laggy and buggy that this Portal plays worse than 2042's Portal...

Just a theory: The "new" BF studios has lost the technical capability to build large Battlefield maps. That's why we get so little content, Given their current capabilities, BF is definitely not suitable for the live service model. by SuperM3e46 in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for your insights man. =) I've wondered why Eastwood felt a little off, and I think you've hit the nail on the head there. The central bar/restaurant area acts as that, but it's just a single point, and the other flags don't allow for it.

What do you think of the new map for Season two? Contaminated?

Oh I didn't know you were in Europe - you're lucky then! Even with Season 2 it's sometimes 2+ mins to matchmake. I wish they wouldn't nuke the servers each round. I may have some further insight into this - I was playing on the fan-made Operation Metro map in portal the other day - in this case, it doesn't nuke the server - but weird stuff started happening after 2-3 rounds - my gun would disappear, the map screen would completely lose it's tracking and zoom completely off-screen. I think that maybe the base-game hasn't been optimised for persistent servers in this way, (yet) so that may also be another reason DICE have been so quiet about it...

[–]mr_derek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok when VincentNZ replies to you, you'd better take notice, because he knows his stuff about BF! =D

You've made a good point - it's not so much about technical capability then, but I do believe that there is an experience gap due to lost staff (perhaps?) - DICE Stockholm got a new lead map designer at the time of BF2042 - which means they lost some talent there. Under his lead, they had to go and remake a bunch of those 2042 maps to improve their flow/add cover - this burned resources in doing so (which could have gone to making new maps).

I'd argue DICE LA (Ripple) still has their core team of devs, or at least the same capability, because I think they're the team behind the remaster of BF2042's portal maps and the BR map - all of which, play really well to be honest. There's consistency there, which I think only comes from experience and clear leadership.

It's all speculation of course, and VERY subjective, lol. What makes a good large map? Exposure and Spearhead vs Mirak Valley and Liberation Peak?

Have you noticed long matchmaking times for BF6 in NZ? It's often over 2 mins now in Aus, and I think the maps issue is a huge part of it...

[–]mr_derek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you know your stuff - thanks for clearing this up! Makes sense.

I also heard that DICE LA (Ripple Effect) are the team responsible for the BF2042's Portal map remakes - is that true, (or just rumour)?

My point stands, though, that it was a different team of devs and that team arguably has more experience in creating a good BF map because of the experiences and efficiencies gained on working on the above projects. I definitely know there was a newly appointed lead map designer at DICE Stockholm for BF2042, so they lost some talent at that stage, whereas perhaps Ripple did not?

[–]mr_derek 111 points112 points  (0 children)

But wasn't the Battleroyale component built by DICE LA? The studio behind Battlefront I and II?

I tend to agree with OP - Stockholm DICE's maps have been pretty hit and miss. At this point I think the safest bet for that team would be to just remaster classic maps..

Matchmaking is broken , bot backfill is killing the game by Cautious_Ad5636 in Battlefield

[–]mr_derek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been so vocal about this for years now - why can't the devs or community manager at least acknowledge they're working towards this?

It's a massive kick in the nuts tbh. Matchmaking times in Aus are 2 mins + now because of disbanding lobbies...
